CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Volvo XC60
overall

Summary
With 216 currently listed for sale and an average price of $34,718 CAD, 33.3% of 2022 Volvo XC60 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Volvo XC60 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Volvo XC60 stands out as a refined luxury crossover that blends Volvo’s signature styling with solid engineering and a useful size that sits between the XC40 and XC90. For 2022, Volvo gave it notable updates to help keep it fresh in a crowded segment, including new powertrains, mildly updated exterior styling, and an Android-based infotainment system. That combination makes the XC60 appealing to buyers who want a premium SUV that feels modern without losing the restrained, Scandinavian character that defines the brand.
Its updated lineup also broadens the XC60’s appeal, with mild-hybrid versions joining the range alongside the carryover plug-in hybrid. The result is a model that offers a mix of efficiency-minded and performance-oriented choices, while the available trim structure gives shoppers room to choose between a more straightforward luxury setup and sportier versions. Drivers also tend to appreciate its smooth driving experience, comfort, and high-quality features, although some would like better electric-only range for longer trips.

This XC 60 has both R Design and Polstar options. It is about as sporty as a mid-sized SUV can get. 21 rims, sport seats, racing pedals, B&W speaker upgrade, double moon roof, sport grill and other trim. The Polstar option includes the Polstar driving mode which greatly increases the acceleration torque. This car goes like a rochet in Polstar drive mode. It is an absolute joy to drive. This is no soccer mom car thats for sure! My wife and I drove comparable BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Infiniti, Toyota - pretty much all comparables. The XC 60 is by far the most solid, safest, best driving SUV in the segment. The 2011 XC 60 we are now selling has 220,000 km on it and it still like new. These Volvos are EXTREMELY well built. If you plan on keeping your vehicles for many years like we do, buy a Vovlo.

This is a beautiful vehicle and will be difficult to match for style and comfort. We need the electric only mode to travel further than this vehicle allows.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 reliable?

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with smooth driving manners and high-quality features that owners can count on. The XC60’s calm, comfortable character and solid engineering also support the impression of a trouble-free ownership experience.
Volvo’s four-year, 80,000-kilometre basic and powertrain warranties add some reassurance for used buyers, but you should still budget for luxury-vehicle maintenance and inspect any higher-mileage example carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Momentum keeps the XC60 straightforward, while higher trims add more upscale touches such as Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the most value, focus on the trim that gives you the features you’ll actually use without pushing too far into option-heavy territory.
- Powertrain: You’ll find B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains, both using a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt electrical system and an integrated starter generator. The B6 adds an electric supercharger and delivers stronger output, while the plug-in hybrid brings the most power and the ability to drive on electricity for short trips.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Volvo’s driver assistance system is available as an option and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring.
- Infotainment: Look for the 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, and over-the-air software updates. Apple compatibility is included, but Android users get the fullest integration.
- Fuel efficiency: The base B5 is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined, while the B6 is rated at 9.9 L/100 km combined. The plug-in hybrid is rated at 4.0 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined and 9.3 L/100 km combined in hybrid mode.
Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 6 trim levels: B5 Momentum, B6 Momentum, B6 R-Design, B6 Inscription, T8 Recharge Inscription, T8 Recharge R-Design, and T8 Recharge Polestar Engineered.
Here's the short version:
- B5 Momentum: This is the simplest way into the XC60 lineup, and it makes sense if you want the updated styling, standard AWD, and the new infotainment system without stretching the budget too far.
- B6 Momentum: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds stronger performance while staying relatively straightforward.
- B6 R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier look and feel; it was the test vehicle and is the trim that best showcases the XC60’s more expressive side.
- B6 Inscription: This is the more upscale choice, and it stands out for its Nappa leather upholstery and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
- T8 Recharge Inscription: Pick this if you want plug-in hybrid capability with a more luxurious presentation.
- T8 Recharge R-Design: This suits buyers who want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a sportier appearance.
- T8 Recharge Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-focused plug-in hybrid, with more power plus Öhlins adjustable dampers, Akebono brakes, and a front strut bar.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, while Volvo’s driver assistance system remains an option rather than a must-have feature.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC60?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 231 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.10% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $34,939 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Volvo XC60's resale value?
The current average of $34,939 CAD sits slightly below last year's $42,658 CAD.
That price movement suggests the XC60 has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help support demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means you may need to price competitively if the market stays soft.
The good news is that the XC60’s strong reputation for comfort, safety, and premium feel should help it remain appealing to shoppers looking for a refined luxury SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 safe?
The 2022 Volvo XC60 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, and it earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Volvo’s driver assistance system is available as an option and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring.
Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 18.10% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains and Android-based infotainment.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $30,666 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,939 CAD average.
- It offers a well-judged, practical luxury crossover with strong safety and comfort.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $40,035 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $34,939 CAD average.
- It focuses on plug-in hybrid driving with electric-only capability for shorter trips.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-round pick if you want the updated powertrains, fresh tech, and a softer used-market price. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the value play; if you want plug-in hybrid flexibility, the 2023 is the more specialised choice.
