What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Momentum keeps the XC60 straightforward, while higher trims add more upscale touches such as Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the most value, focus on the trim that gives you the features you’ll actually use without pushing too far into option-heavy territory.
• Powertrain: You’ll find B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains, both using a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 48-volt electrical system and an integrated starter generator. The B6 adds an electric supercharger and delivers stronger output, while the plug-in hybrid brings the most power and the ability to drive on electricity for short trips.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Volvo’s driver assistance system is available as an option and combines adaptive cruise control with automated lane centring.
• Infotainment: Look for the 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, and over-the-air software updates. Apple compatibility is included, but Android users get the fullest integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The base B5 is rated at 9.4 L/100 km combined, while the B6 is rated at 9.9 L/100 km combined. The plug-in hybrid is rated at 4.0 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined and 9.3 L/100 km combined in hybrid mode.

Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 6 trim levels: B5 Momentum, B6 Momentum, B6 R-Design, B6 Inscription, T8 Recharge Inscription, T8 Recharge R-Design, and T8 Recharge Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• B5 Momentum: This is the simplest way into the XC60 lineup, and it makes sense if you want the updated styling, standard AWD, and the new infotainment system without stretching the budget too far.
• B6 Momentum: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds stronger performance while staying relatively straightforward.
• B6 R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier look and feel; it was the test vehicle and is the trim that best showcases the XC60’s more expressive side.
• B6 Inscription: This is the more upscale choice, and it stands out for its Nappa leather upholstery and leather-wrapped steering wheel.
• T8 Recharge Inscription: Pick this if you want plug-in hybrid capability with a more luxurious presentation.
• T8 Recharge R-Design: This suits buyers who want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a sportier appearance.
• T8 Recharge Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-focused plug-in hybrid, with more power plus Öhlins adjustable dampers, Akebono brakes, and a front strut bar.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, while Volvo’s driver assistance system remains an option rather than a must-have feature.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 18.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains and Android-based infotainment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,666 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $34,939 CAD average.
• It offers a well-judged, practical luxury crossover with strong safety and comfort.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $40,035 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $34,939 CAD average.
• It focuses on plug-in hybrid driving with electric-only capability for shorter trips.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-round pick if you want the updated powertrains, fresh tech, and a softer used-market price. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the value play; if you want plug-in hybrid flexibility, the 2023 is the more specialised choice.
