Why it stands out
If you like the way the 2022 Toyota Camry looks, then it’s likely you’ll enjoy most other things about it. That styling appeal is part of what makes the car distinctive, but its broader draw is more practical: it is the kind of car many buyers still choose when they want something roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable.
Owner feedback reinforces that appeal. Reviewers are especially positive about the 2022 Toyota Camry’s reliability, fuel efficiency, comfortable interior, and value for money. The main drawback mentioned is that some drivers find the four-cylinder engine lacks power, and a few wish for more advanced features such as wireless Apple CarPlay.

I absolutely love the features of my car. The push start, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay are all fantastic. For the value, the car is a great choice. Being a Toyota, its built to last and is also very fuel-efficient. Both the exterior and interior are incredibly clean, which adds to its appeal. That said, there are a couple of things I wish were different. I’d love if the car had memory seats, and the display screen could be a bit more modern, especially compared to the ones in the Toyota Highlanders. Another small inconvenience is that, unlike the Highlanders where Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, my car requires the phone to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. While this isnt a huge issue, it would be more convenient if it were wireless like in the Highlanders. Overall, it’s a really cute car and an amazing choice for a first car. Im really happy with it!

Smooth ride on the highway with great mpg. The shifting is a little hotter than I'm used to but you get used to it pretty quickly. The only thing it's missing is a physical pause/play button. Has all the controls except that one.

Great car. Like the styling on the outside which was a big reason. Most important though is reliability and safety.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Toyota Camry earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, comfortable interior, and value for money. That lines up with the Camry’s practical appeal as a roomy, efficient, safe, and affordable midsize sedan. If you want a mainstream family car that still feels distinctive, this model year fits that brief well.
There are 26.1% good or great deals in the market, which points to a reasonably favourable shopping environment.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Reviewers repeatedly describe the 2022 Toyota Camry as reliable and dependable, with a reputation for trouble-free ownership and strong long-term appeal. The expert assessment also frames it as a reliable, efficient, and affordable family car, which reinforces that impression.
Toyota’s ownership proposition is helped by the car’s practical engineering and broad appeal, and the standard connected-services trial periods add some convenience early in ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core dependability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the features you want.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Camry lineup spans 13 versions, with the base LE starting the range and the XSE V6 sitting near the top. The SE-based TRD stands out for its more aggressive appearance and performance focus, while the XSE and TRD also get extra equipment such as the larger touchscreen and standard blind-spot monitoring. If you want the best value, the SE-based trims are worth a close look because they keep the Camry’s core strengths without pushing you into the priciest versions.
- Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder engine, a V6 engine, or a fuel-efficient gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The TRD uses a 3.5-litre V6 with 301 horsepower, 267 pound-feet of torque, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. The expert notes that the V6 is strong and the transmission is well matched, while also pointing out that front-wheel drive can make it easy to break traction.
- Safety package: Every 2022 Camry has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and XSE, but optional on LE and SE. The lane-keeping systems can be a bit overactive, so it is worth testing how they feel on your usual roads.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and shortcut buttons. XSE and TRD models get a 9-inch touchscreen, and TRD and V6 versions add a 9-speaker JBL premium audio system. Wireless smartphone integration is not mentioned, so check whether the setup suits your expectations.
- Fuel efficiency: The TRD is rated at 9.4 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test result came in at 9.5 L/100 km. The broader Camry range also includes a hybrid powertrain that uses less than 5 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in combined driving.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 13 trim levels: LE, SE, XLE, XSE, TRD, SE Hybrid, XLE Hybrid, XSE Hybrid, LE Hybrid, XSE V6, XLE V6, Camry Hybrid XLE, and Camry TRD.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Camry nameplate and are comfortable with a simpler equipment list.
- SE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it keeps the Camry affordable while adding a sportier look and serving as the basis for the TRD.
- XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay more for comfort-oriented equipment.
- XSE: This is the better pick if you want a richer feature set and standard blind-spot monitoring without jumping all the way to the V6 or TRD.
- TRD: Pick this if you want the most distinctive Camry personality, with the V6, track-tuned hardware, and the most aggressive styling in the range.
- SE Hybrid: This suits you if efficiency matters most and you still want the SE’s sportier appearance.
- XLE Hybrid: Choose this if you want hybrid efficiency with a more premium feel.
- XSE Hybrid: This is the right fit if you want hybrid efficiency and a more expressive, better-equipped trim.
- LE Hybrid: This is the efficiency-first choice for buyers who want the Camry’s hybrid benefits at the lower end of the range.
- XSE V6: This is the upscale performance-oriented choice if you want the stronger V6 with a more premium trim.
- XLE V6: Choose this if you want V6 power in a more comfort-focused package.
- Camry Hybrid XLE: This is the hybrid option for buyers who want a more premium specification.
- Camry TRD: This is the enthusiast pick, with the most dramatic styling and the performance hardware to match.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard across the range, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and XSE but optional on LE and SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 115 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.31% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $26,110 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $26,323 CAD sits slightly below last year's $29,350 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Camry has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract attention if they bought at the right time. A softer market can also mean you may need to price competitively when it is your turn to sell.
The Camry’s broad appeal helps support resale prospects because shoppers still value its reliability, efficiency, safety, and affordability. Strong owner satisfaction also tends to keep demand healthy over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2022 Camry earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in every National Highway Traffic Safety Administration test.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard on every 2022 Camry and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. Safety Connect is also standard, with automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and XSE, but optional on LE and SE.
One caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-centring systems can be overly sensitive or intrusive in some driving situations, so you should test them on roads similar to your daily commute.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 stands out for its roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable character.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,531 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $26,323 CAD average.
- It offers broad choice across powertrains, trims, packages, and drivetrains.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market value story and the 2022’s well-rounded mix of safety, efficiency, and owner satisfaction, this is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Camry’s core strengths.
