Why it stands out
If you like the way the 2022 Toyota Camry looks, then it’s likely you’ll enjoy most other things about it. That styling appeal is part of what makes the car distinctive, but its broader draw is more practical: it is the kind of car many buyers still choose when they want something roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable.
Owner feedback reinforces that appeal. Reviewers are especially positive about the 2022 Toyota Camry’s reliability, fuel efficiency, comfortable interior, and value for money. The main drawback mentioned is that some drivers find the four-cylinder engine lacks power, and a few wish for more advanced features such as wireless Apple CarPlay.

I absolutely love the features of my car. The push start, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay are all fantastic. For the value, the car is a great choice. Being a Toyota, its built to last and is also very fuel-efficient. Both the exterior and interior are incredibly clean, which adds to its appeal. That said, there are a couple of things I wish were different. I’d love if the car had memory seats, and the display screen could be a bit more modern, especially compared to the ones in the Toyota Highlanders. Another small inconvenience is that, unlike the Highlanders where Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, my car requires the phone to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. While this isnt a huge issue, it would be more convenient if it were wireless like in the Highlanders. Overall, it’s a really cute car and an amazing choice for a first car. Im really happy with it!

Smooth ride on the highway with great mpg. The shifting is a little hotter than I'm used to but you get used to it pretty quickly. The only thing it's missing is a physical pause/play button. Has all the controls except that one.

Great car. Like the styling on the outside which was a big reason. Most important though is reliability and safety.

Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Toyota Camry earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, comfortable interior, and value for money. That lines up well with the Camry’s role as a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable midsize sedan. If you want a practical daily driver with broad appeal, this model year fits that brief well. With 31.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also a decent amount of market value to explore.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and reviewers also describe the car as dependable and trouble-free in everyday use. The expert assessment reinforces that impression by framing the Camry as a reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable family car. Toyota also positions it as a cost-effective choice, which supports the idea that it should be straightforward to live with over time.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about durability and more about finding a well-kept example with the equipment and condition you want.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE starts the range, while higher trims add more equipment and personality. Standard heated side mirrors are included across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the Camry TRD and XSE but optional on LE and SE.
- Powertrain: You can choose a four-cylinder engine, a V6 engine, or a fuel-efficient gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The Camry TRD uses a 3.5-litre V6 with 301 horsepower, 267 pound-feet of torque, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Every 2022 Camry has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes adaptive cruise control and available lane-centring assistance. Safety Connect is also standard, with automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator.
- Infotainment: The standard system is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Safety Connect. Camry XSE and TRD buyers get a 9-inch touchscreen, and V6 versions add a 9-speaker JBL premium audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The Camry TRD is rated at 9.4 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 9.5 L/100 km.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 13 trim levels: LE, SE, XLE, XSE, SE Hybrid, XLE Hybrid, XSE Hybrid, LE Hybrid, Camry TRD, Camry XSE V6, Camry SE Nightshade Edition, Camry XSE Nightshade Edition, and Camry XLE Nightshade Edition.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Camry’s core strengths without paying for extras you may not need.
- SE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it keeps the Camry affordable while adding a sportier feel and serving as the basis for the TRD.
- XLE: Choose this if you want a more upscale mainstream Camry with a stronger comfort focus.
- XSE: This is the better pick if you want more equipment and a more expressive personality, including the larger 9-inch touchscreen.
- SE Hybrid: Pick this if efficiency is your top priority and you want a hybrid without moving too far up the price ladder.
- XLE Hybrid: This suits you if you want hybrid efficiency with a more premium feel.
- XSE Hybrid: Choose this if you want the hybrid powertrain with the sportier XSE treatment.
- LE Hybrid: This is the most straightforward route to Camry hybrid efficiency.
- Camry TRD: This is the enthusiast choice, with the V6, track-tuned suspension, stronger brakes, and the most aggressive styling.
- Camry XSE V6: This is the right pick if you want V6 power with a more upscale and well-equipped presentation.
- Camry SE Nightshade Edition: This is for you if you like the SE formula but want a darker appearance package.
- Camry XSE Nightshade Edition: This adds the Nightshade look to a better-equipped XSE foundation.
- Camry XLE Nightshade Edition: This is the most style-forward version of the comfort-oriented XLE.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and XSE but optional on LE and SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 119 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.62% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $26,110 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $26,238 CAD sits slightly below last year's $29,355 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The Camry’s broad appeal should still support demand, especially because shoppers continue to value its reliability, efficiency, and safety. Strong owner satisfaction can help keep interest steady when it is time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2022 Toyota Camry earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings in every National Highway Traffic Safety Administration test.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Every 2022 Camry has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, which includes adaptive cruise control and available lane-centring assistance. Toyota also includes Safety Connect on every trim, with automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD and XSE, but optional on LE and SE.
One caveat is that the lane-keeping and adaptive cruise systems can feel overly assertive or occasionally overreactive in some driving situations.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.62% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong safety, broad trim choice, and a lower average price than the 2023 model.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,719 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $26,238 CAD average.
- It offers a strong all-rounder balance with more choice in powertrains, trims, and drivetrains.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market value story, excellent safety, and high owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better budget-focused alternative and still delivers the Camry’s core practicality.
