Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Camry remains a strong all-rounder in the midsize-sedan class, even though it did not receive many updates for the model year. Toyota had already moved the Camry in a more extroverted direction with the last redesign for the 2018 model year, giving it styling that is more expressive than the car’s long-standing reputation for being sensible rather than exciting. For buyers who want a mainstream sedan that is easy to live with, that balance of practicality and a more distinctive look is a big part of its appeal.
For 2021, the Camry gained subtle styling tweaks, new infotainment displays, an upgrade to the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package of driver aids, and changes to the dashboard trim. It also stands out for the breadth of choices it offers, with three powertrains, four trim levels, three available packages on select models, and the option of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. That variety makes it easier to tailor the car to different priorities, whether the focus is efficiency, performance, or added equipment.
The Camry’s strengths remain its reliability and practicality, and owners also praise its smooth ride, good handling, fuel efficiency, and dependable performance. On the other hand, some drivers are less impressed with the interior quality, especially the infotainment system and noise levels at higher speeds.

I absolutely love my 2021 Toyota Camry. From the moment I got it, I honestly fell in love with it. The car looks sporty and modern, but at the same time it’s very comfortable and smooth to drive. It feels reliable and safe, which gives me a lot of confidence, especially as someone still getting used to driving more often. The fuel efficiency is great, and the interior is clean and well-designed. Everything feels solid and easy to use. It’s definitely a great value for the price. If I had to mention something, I wish it had push-button start, but overall I’m extremely happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for something reliable, stylish, and comfortable.

Is the 2021 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Toyota Camry earns a 4.65/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, great handling, fuel efficiency, and reliable performance. That lines up well with the Camry’s role as a practical midsize sedan that still offers a more distinctive look than older versions. For you, that means a car that fits daily commuting, family duty, and long-haul comfort without giving up too much driving enjoyment.
Good and great deals account for 27.6% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.65/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback highlights reliable performance, and the expert assessment also points to Toyota’s excellent reputation for reliability and the Camry’s well-rounded ownership appeal. The car is described as dependable and practical, with a reputation buyers have traditionally counted on.
Toyota also backs the Camry with a three-year, 60,000 km basic warranty and a five-year, 100,000 km powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Camry’s core durability and more about choosing the right trim and condition for your needs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LE and XLE models get a cleaner grille, while SE and XSE trims add fake vents that create more visual clutter. The TRD package adds unique styling elements like a larger rear spoiler, and the Nightshade Edition is based on the SE with blacked-out exterior trim and wheels.
- Powertrain: You can choose a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, a 3.5-litre V6, or a hybrid. The four-cylinder is the most common setup, while the V6 brings stronger output and the hybrid is the efficiency leader.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, and optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Higher trims can add a 9-inch touchscreen, navigation, SiriusXM, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system, while XSE and XLE can also get a 10-inch head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder LE and SE are rated at 7.4 L/100 km combined with FWD and 8.2 L/100 km combined with AWD. The V6 is rated at 9.0 L/100 km combined in XLE trim, while the hybrid posts 4.9 L/100 km combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, XLE.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Camry’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. It gives you the standard safety suite, the 7-inch touchscreen, and the base four-cylinder setup, making it the best-value trim for most shoppers.
- SE: This is the better pick if you want a sportier look without moving too far up the price ladder. It adds more aggressive styling than LE and is also the basis for the Nightshade Edition.
- XSE: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale, better-equipped Camry with available premium tech and stronger visual presence. It can also be paired with the V6 and gets access to the head-up display.
- XLE: This is the comfort-leaning choice, with a cleaner exterior treatment and standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It suits buyers who want a more relaxed, well-equipped sedan.
Safety-package note: blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, and optional on LE and SE.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 116 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.20% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,757 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $24,531 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,316 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if values continue to ease. The Camry’s broad appeal, strong reliability reputation, and solid owner satisfaction should help support demand over time. Even so, resale will still depend heavily on trim, mileage, condition, and equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2021 Toyota Camry earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS and five-star ratings in front, side, and rollover crash tests from NHTSA.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Toyota also adds Rear Seat Reminder as standard on all trim levels. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, and optional on LE and SE.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.20% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds updated infotainment displays and the upgraded Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $23,700 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $24,531 CAD average.
- It adds all-wheel drive and the TRD option package.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $26,323 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,531 CAD average.
- It appeals to buyers who want a roomy, reliable, efficient, safe, and affordable sedan.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated safety tech and a broad trim range at a softened market price. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2020 can still make sense, especially if you want to save money and don’t mind giving up some of the 2021 updates.
