Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The driving impression also supports that view, with a smooth, composed ride and a quiet cabin that suggest solid day-to-day durability. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may show the usual wear that comes with higher-mileage fleet use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE is the entry point, while the SR Midnight Edition adds a gloss black sport grille, LED fog lights, gloss black 19-inch alloy wheels, a moonroof, a black spoiler, heated front seats, and two-way power lumbar for the driver’s seat. The Platinum sits above it with more premium equipment, so lower trims will feel less upscale.
• Powertrain: You get a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, paired with an Xtronic CVT. All-wheel drive is standard, and the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine is not offered in Canada.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, forward-collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, driver-attention warning, rear door alert, and hill-start assist. The Altima also offers ProPilot Assist and Around View Monitor, with navigation and connected services starting at SR.
• Infotainment: Every model gets a 7-inch advanced drive-assist display and an 8-inch colour touchscreen with Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, hands-free text messaging assistant, SiriusXM satellite radio, and two USB ports. Navigation and connected services start at SR, and Platinum adds a nine-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada lists fuel consumption at 9.1 L/100 km in city driving, 6.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 7.9 L/100 km combined, with an extra 0.2 L/100 km for SR and Platinum trims.

Which 2022 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Altima is offered in 3 trim levels: SE, SR Midnight Edition, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value play if you want the Altima’s standard all-wheel drive, core safety tech, and everyday comfort without paying for extras. It makes the most sense if you care more about the fundamentals than premium touches.
• SR Midnight Edition: This is the best-value trim if you want the Altima to feel more distinctive. It adds the blacked-out styling package, larger wheels, a moonroof, heated front seats, and driver-seat lumbar support, making it the most appealing middle ground.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most upscale Altima, including the nine-speaker Bose audio system and the fullest feature set mentioned here.

The standard safety equipment is strong across the range, but the higher trims add more convenience and comfort features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Altima?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 32% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 50 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,552 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $22,656 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,652 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the Altima is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that means you may not recover as much as you would have when prices were higher.

The good news is that the current market still shows steady demand, which can help support resale value if you keep the car in strong condition. A well-maintained Altima with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than a neglected example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2022 Nissan Altima earns a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA in overall crash protection, front crash protection, side crash protection, and rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, forward-collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, driver-attention warning, rear door alert, and hill-start assist. ProPilot Assist and Around View Monitor are also available.

One caveat is that IIHS gives the headlights an Acceptable rating, so lighting performance is not the Altima’s strongest safety result.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines standard all-wheel drive with strong safety ratings and a well-equipped cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,034 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $22,656 CAD average.
• It offers an earlier version of the same Altima formula.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $23,113 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $22,656 CAD average.
• It keeps the Altima’s practical value focus and standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the sweet spot if you want strong safety, standard AWD, and a softer used price than last year. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better starting point; if you want a newer model year and can stretch a bit, the 2023 is worth a look.

How does the 2022 Nissan Altima compare to the 2022 Toyota Camry?

Our experts score the 2022 Nissan Altima 7.5/10 and the 2022 Toyota Camry 7.2/10. The Altima gives you standard all-wheel drive and a lower average used price, while the Camry brings more listings and a stronger engine. Both return the same city and highway fuel-consumption figures in the comparison table, so your decision comes down more to price, availability, and drivetrain preference.
