Used 2022 Toyota 4Runner for Sale near Thornhill, ON

How much does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 10.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 167 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, ruggedness, and spacious interior. That lines up with the 4Runner’s purpose as a rugged SUV that can handle everyday use while still appealing to buyers who want genuine off-road credibility. The market also shows 34.1% of listings as good or great deals, which adds some shopping flexibility.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and the 4Runner’s dated V6 is described as reliable and giving a decent jump off the line. Toyota also backs it with a five-year/100,000-kilometre powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the 4Runner’s rugged design comes with compromises in refinement and efficiency, so you should expect a truck-like experience rather than a soft crossover feel.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Trail grade is the most basic version, with push-button start, remote keyless entry, a power-sliding rear window, satellite radio, multiple USB ports, and an 8-inch touchscreen. Heated front seats are not included on the Trail grade but are otherwise standard, so base-trim shoppers should check whether that matters to you.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a single 4.0-litre V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic and standard 4WD with low range. It is reliable, but it feels dated and underwhelming in most driving situations.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Some of these features are only possible with the automatic transmission.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and multiple USB ports. You cannot upgrade to a larger screen, but navigation and a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates consumption at 14.8 L/100 km in the city, 12.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 13.8 L/100 km combined. The Limited’s full-time 4WD system is rated at 14.9 L/100 km city and 12.6 L/100 km highway.

Which 2022 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: Trail, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• Trail: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 4Runner experience with standard 4WD, the 8-inch touchscreen, and Toyota Safety Sense P. It makes sense if you want the least expensive path into the model and do not need the extra comfort or luxury features found higher up.
• SR5: The SR5 is the next step up from Trail and is the better fit if you want a more mainstream 4Runner setup without jumping straight to the more specialised trims. It is a sensible middle-ground choice for shoppers who want the 4Runner’s rugged character with broader everyday appeal.
• TRD Sport: This trim adds a more road-oriented setup with 20-inch alloy wheels and X-REAS performance suspension, plus a TRD hood scoop and sport exterior badging. It suits you if you want the 4Runner look and feel with a slightly more pavement-focused personality.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value trim for buyers who actually plan to use the 4Runner’s off-road hardware. It adds a locking rear differential, crawl control, active traction control, multi-terrain select, unique 17-inch wheels, black roof rails, KDSS, and TRD Off-Road badging.
• Limited: The Limited is the most road-oriented and comfort-focused version, with 20-inch wheels, front and rear parking sensors, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, LED fog lights, a 15-speaker JBL audio system, and full-time 4WD. It is the right pick if you want the most upscale 4Runner experience.
• TRD Pro: The TRD Pro is the most rugged-looking and most off-road-focused trim, with enhanced Fox shock absorbers, 17-inch matte black alloy wheels, an aluminium front skid plate, a basket-style roof rack, a hood scoop, and TRD Pro badging. Choose it if you want the most capability-oriented factory setup.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard across the range, while the Limited adds front and rear parking sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 167 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.74% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $49,245 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $49,518 CAD sits slightly below last year's $55,478 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. The 4Runner’s rugged reputation and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, especially among shoppers who value durability and off-road credibility. Even so, resale will depend on how well the market continues to reward its niche appeal versus newer, more efficient SUVs.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal and side-impact testing, and three-star ratings in rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Some of these features are only available because the 4Runner uses an automatic transmission. The main caveat is that the 2022 model has not yet been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps rugged SUV character while adding modern infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $47,379 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $49,518 CAD average.
• It emphasises reliability, utility, and rugged capability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $55,012 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $49,518 CAD average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the sweet spot if you want the 4Runner’s rugged character with modern tech and a softer price trend than the 2023. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look because it delivers much of the same core appeal for less.

How does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner compare to the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Our experts score the 2022 Toyota 4Runner 7/10 and the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 8/10.

The 4Runner is the better fit if you want a more rugged, old-school SUV with strong off-road credibility and a loyal owner base. The Grand Cherokee scores higher overall and offers a stronger on-paper value proposition in this comparison, especially if you care more about everyday road manners and lower used pricing. If your priority is trail capability and durability, the 4Runner still has a clear identity; if you want the more polished all-rounder, the Grand Cherokee has the edge.
