Is the 2022 Subaru WRX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru WRX earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its thrilling performance, sporty features, and strong value, especially for all-wheel-drive use. The review summary also points to driving sophistication and versatility, which fits the WRX’s mix of everyday usability and enthusiast appeal. That makes it a strong fit if you want a sporty sedan that can handle daily commuting and less predictable weather with confidence. With 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s also a decent amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2022 Subaru WRX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with strong enthusiasm for its long-term appeal and trouble-free character. The expert assessment also highlights the WRX’s all-weather practicality and its improved suspension and platform, which support confidence in regular ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that enthusiast use can mean harder driving and more wear than you might expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru WRX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim is the most stripped-back version, while Sport and Sport-tech add more equipment and safety content. If you want the best balance of features and value, the Sport trim is the one to focus on first.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.4-litre turbo Boxer engine with a six-speed manual or a CVT. The manual uses continuous AWD, while the CVT uses variable torque distribution.
• Safety package: EyeSight comes standard on CVT-equipped models and includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, an electronic brake booster, and automatic steering assist. Manual models do not get EyeSight. Blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Sport and Sport-tech trims, but not on the base trim.
• Infotainment: Sport-trim and higher models get an 11.6-inch tablet-style touchscreen. The system includes physical controls for climate, power, volume, tuning, and defrost functions, but Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration is not especially polished. The base trim uses two stacked 7-inch displays instead.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the manual at 12.3 L/100 km in city driving, 9.0 on the highway, and 10.8 combined. The CVT is rated at 12.7 city, 9.4 highway, and 11.2 combined.

Which 2022 Subaru WRX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru WRX is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Sport, and Sport-tech.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the WRX’s core performance and all-wheel-drive hardware at the lowest price, but it misses out on the extra safety features found higher up the range.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger 11.6-inch touchscreen and the key safety features that the base trim lacks.
• Sport-tech: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped WRX, with the highest level of comfort and technology content in the lineup.

EyeSight is standard on CVT-equipped models, while blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Sport and Sport-tech trims regardless of transmission.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru WRX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep scarcity.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 129 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,675 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru WRX's resale value?

The current average of $28,675 CAD sits slightly below last year's $31,596 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. If demand remains steady, the WRX’s enthusiast appeal and all-wheel-drive practicality should help support interest from used buyers. The model’s strong owner satisfaction also helps keep it on shoppers’ shortlists. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru WRX safe?

The 2022 Subaru WRX earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety in the WRX is a tale of two transmissions. CVT-equipped models come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of advanced driver assistance systems, which includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, an electronic brake booster, and automatic steering assist. Manual models do not get EyeSight, which is a meaningful gap if safety tech matters to you. Separate from EyeSight, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Sport and Sport-tech trims, but not on the base trim. The Subaru Global Platform also improves crash energy absorption, and the car comes standard with seven airbags, including a driver’s-side knee airbag.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru WRX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 update brings a new 2.4-litre engine, improved suspension, and a much better interior.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $31,195 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $28,675 CAD average.
• It carries over the same generation with no changes, so the main appeal is continuity rather than an upgrade.

The bottom line: If you want the better value proposition, the 2022 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year with the same basic formula, the 2023 is the simpler choice.
