What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru BRZ?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car is the simpler, lighter choice, while Sport-tech adds 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede upholstery with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. If you want the best value, the base trim gives you the core BRZ experience without the extra equipment.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-litre boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, plus either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The engine is tuned for a free-revving feel and stronger low-end torque than the previous version.
• Safety package: EyeSight driver-assist technology is standard only on automatic-transmission models and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist and lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams. Sport-tech adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, and steering responsive LED headlights; automatic Sport-tech models also get reverse automatic braking.
• Infotainment: You get a standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The digital cluster also gives you access to sport mode and track mode.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates it at 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined with the automatic transmission and 10.5 L/100 km combined with the manual transmission.

Which 2022 Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru BRZ is offered in 2 trim levels: base and Sport-tech.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the one to target if you want the purest BRZ formula and the lowest entry price. It still gives you the 2.4-litre engine, the standard 8-inch touchscreen, the digital gauge cluster, and the core rear-wheel-drive sports-car experience without paying for the extra comfort and appearance upgrades.
• Sport-tech: This is the better pick if you want the most complete version of the BRZ. It adds the grippier 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede upholstery, dual-mode heaters, and the extra safety equipment, making it the stronger choice if you want the best-equipped trim.

Automatic-transmission models get EyeSight, while Sport-tech adds more driver-assistance features regardless of transmission.

• Deal availability: 14.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 42 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.06% year-over-year.

If you find a listing below $26,543 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru BRZ's resale value?

The current average of $27,494 CAD sits slightly above last year's $27,206 CAD.

That modest increase suggests the BRZ has held its value reasonably well for a niche sports car. Demand appears steady rather than overheated, which is a good sign if you plan to sell later. The limited inventory also helps support pricing, since fewer examples on the market can make clean, well-kept cars easier to move.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

With either transmission, the BRZ Sport-tech adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, and steering responsive LED headlights. Automatic-transmission Sport-tech models also get reverse automatic braking.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru BRZ or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 14.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.06% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 BRZ gets a more powerful 2.4-litre engine, a major tech upgrade, and improved on-road manners compared with the previous generation.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of performance, updated tech, and everyday livability, the 2022 is the right year to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, keep an eye out for the lowest-priced listings, since the market still offers some room to find a good deal.
