Used 2022 Subaru Ascent for Sale nearOttawa, ON

How much does the 2022 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 11.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 156 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating, which points to broad appeal for buyers who want a practical three-row SUV with Subaru’s all-weather confidence. The Ascent is Subaru’s only model made to carry more than five people, so it is aimed squarely at families and shoppers who need extra seating without giving up the brand’s durability and safety focus.

The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Its value case is strong because every version includes standard all-wheel drive and a safety-first equipment set, while the Onyx Edition adds a more distinctive look and family-friendly interior treatment. 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Ascent’s reliability case is built around Subaru’s reputation for durability and its standard all-wheel-drive hardware, which should appeal if you want a vehicle that feels suited to rough weather and everyday family use. The turbocharged 2.4-litre engine, CVT, and boxer layout are presented as a cohesive package, and the transmission is described as remarkably good in how it keeps the engine in its torque band.

Subaru also positions the Ascent as a practical, value-oriented SUV, and that matters for ownership confidence because it suggests the vehicle is engineered around usefulness rather than flash. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a complex family SUV with lots of standard equipment can become more expensive to keep if previous maintenance was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Onyx Edition sits in the middle of the lineup and adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille design, special interior trim, and water-repellant StarTex upholstery. The base trim is much simpler, while the Touring trim adds an 8-inch display and available connected services. If you want the best-value mix of style and equipment, the Onyx Edition is the one to focus on.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive. Subaru’s X-Mode traction system and hill descent control are standard, and the SUV is described as having more off-road capability than many competitors.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centring technology. Steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist are also standard. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires Touring trim at a minimum, and reverse automatic braking is available.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a CD player. Touring trim adds an 8-inch display with available Starlink connected services, including remote engine starting with climate control pre-conditioning.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Ascent at 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined, with 11.7 city and 9.0 highway.

Which 2022 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Convenience, Touring, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Premier.

Here's the short version:

• Convenience: This is the entry point if you want the Ascent’s core strengths at the lowest price. It gives you the standard turbocharged powertrain, all-wheel drive, EyeSight, and the basic 6.5-inch infotainment setup, so it covers the essentials without extra frills.
• Touring: This is the trim to target if you want more convenience and safety tech. It adds the 8-inch display, available Starlink connected services, and is the minimum trim for blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Onyx Edition: This is the best-value pick for many shoppers because it adds the most personality without moving into the top-end price range. You get blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, StarTex upholstery, and a more distinctive family-hauler look.
• Limited: This trim sits above the Onyx Edition and is part of the upper half of the lineup, making it a better fit if you want a more upscale version of the Ascent without going all the way to the top.
• Premier: This is the most feature-rich choice, and it is the trim to consider if you want the most advanced equipment available, including the digital rearview mirror and 180-degree-view front camera.

Safety-package note: blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts at Touring trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 156 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.45% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $30,043 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $30,248 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,158 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Ascent has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one and plan to sell later, the current softness in the market could limit upside unless your vehicle is especially well equipped and well maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent safe?

The Subaru Ascent gets a "Top Safety Pick+" award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest possible rating in all of the organization’s assessments, and earns five-star crash-test ratings in all evaluations except for rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centring technology, while steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist are also included. Subaru says blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires Touring trim at a minimum, so you will want to check trim level carefully if that feature matters to you.

One caveat is that the camera-based driver-assist system can be less refined than you might expect, and it may behave in ways that feel unsettled during use. That does not erase the Ascent’s strong crash-test credentials, but it is worth knowing if you plan to rely heavily on the assistance tech.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.45% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Subaru adds the new Onyx Edition this year, giving you a more distinctive trim choice with blacked-out styling and water-resistant upholstery.

The bottom line: The 2022 Ascent makes sense if you want a three-row Subaru with strong safety credentials, standard all-wheel drive, and a market that currently favours careful shoppers. If you are price-sensitive, the softer used-market pricing makes this a good year to target, especially if you can find an Onyx Edition or another well-equipped trim at the low end of the range.
