Is the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder reliable?

The owner feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers describing the Pathfinder as a vehicle they can count on over the long term. The expert notes reinforce that impression by highlighting a smooth transmission, stable ride, and substantial platform improvements.

Nissan also positions the Pathfinder as a value-conscious choice with a long list of standard and available features, which can help reduce the feeling that you need to move up the trim ladder to get a well-equipped SUV.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some drivers have mixed feelings about the transmission behaviour and the third-row seating layout.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Pathfinder?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, SV, SL, and Platinum trims differ meaningfully in comfort and convenience. Base trims get cloth upholstery and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, while higher trims add semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, a panoramic moonroof, a roof rack, a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument panel, and a head-up display.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-litre V6 with 284 horsepower and a new 9-speed automatic transmission. Standard all-wheel drive is included in Canada, and the setup is tuned for a smooth, stable ride rather than outright sportiness.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Pathfinder and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, rear automatic braking, driver alertness monitor, rear door alert, and forward-collision warning. Upper trims add a surround-view monitor.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and a 7-inch digital driver-information display. Upper trims get a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, door-to-door connected navigation, and NissanConnect Services.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel-consumption figures are not stated in the available data.

Which 2022 Nissan Pathfinder trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you standard AWD, the full Safety Shield 360 suite, and a long list of tech features. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Pathfinder without giving up the core safety and utility package.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more convenience while keeping the price in check. It also unlocks more equipment that makes the Pathfinder feel better suited to daily family use.
• SL: This trim steps up the cabin with semi-aniline leather-appointed seats and can be paired with the optional Premium package. Choose it if you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to the top trim.
• Platinum: This is the most luxurious Pathfinder, with second-row captain’s chairs, a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument panel, a head-up display, a surround-view monitor, and the most airbags. It suits you best if you want the most premium version and the most standard equipment.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the lineup, while the surround-view monitor is reserved for upper trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Pathfinder?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 206 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,848 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder's resale value?

The current average of $32,848 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,994 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Pathfinder has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for you to enter the market now. For a future seller, the softer pricing means resale expectations should be more conservative than they were a year ago.

Even so, the model’s broad feature set and strong owner satisfaction can help support demand. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and choose a well-equipped trim, you may be better positioned when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder safe?

The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder has not been crash-tested by IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every Pathfinder, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, high-beam assist, rear automatic braking, driver alertness monitor, rear door alert, and forward-collision warning. A rearview camera is standard as well, and upper trims add a surround-view monitor.

One trim-level note to keep in mind is that the top Platinum gets 11 airbags, while other trims get 10.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings back much of the classic Pathfinder capability with a rugged-ish design and strong safety tech.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $37,188 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $32,848 CAD average.
• It adds the Rock Creek edition, a more rugged version of the Pathfinder.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because pricing has softened and inventory is decent. If you want the newer model-year update and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the alternative to consider.

How does the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder compare to the 2022 Toyota Highlander?
