What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lexus RX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX is offered in base 350 form with standard and long-wheelbase versions, while F Sport models add a more athletic appearance and equipment. Base variants get 18-inch wheels, bi-LED headlights, integrated LED turn signals, a rear spoiler, and LED daytime running lights and brake lights, while F Sport models add 20-inch wheels, black-housing outside mirrors, dark window trimming, F Sport badging, and a unique front fascia.
• Powertrain: The RX 350 uses a 3.5-litre V6 with 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, while the RX 450h hybrid adds two electric motors for 308 hp. All models use an 8-speed automatic transmission, and AWD is standard in Canada.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System 2.0+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane-departure warning with steering assist, road-sign recognition, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, a pre-collision system with cyclist- and pedestrian detection, and intelligent high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and a three-year trial of Lexus Enform Safety Connect are also standard. The Top Safety Pick result depends on the optional triple-beam LED headlights.
• Infotainment: The standard screen is 8 inches, with a 12.3-inch display standard on the 450h L and optional on other trims. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available, along with navigation with cloud-based updates, a WiFi hotspot, and wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The RX 350 uses 12.2 L/100 km in city driving, 9.0 on the highway, and 10.8 combined. The RX 350 L rises to 13.1 city, 9.4 highway, and 11.1 combined. The RX 450h returns 7.5 city, 8.4 highway, and 7.9 combined, while the 450h L is rated at 8.1 combined.

Which 2022 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Lexus RX is offered in 4 trim levels: 350, 350 L, 450h, 450h L.

Here's the short version:

• 350: This is the core RX choice if you want the standard V6, the familiar luxury feel, and the broadest balance of comfort and value. It gives you the RX experience without stepping into the pricier long-wheelbase or hybrid variants.
• 350 L: Choose this if you want the three-row, 7-passenger layout and need the extra seating flexibility. It suits families who value the RX’s comfort and refinement but need more passenger capacity.
• 450h: This is the best-value pick if you want the hybrid powertrain and stronger efficiency without moving to the long-wheelbase version. It adds the hybrid system’s fuel-saving advantage while keeping the RX’s core comfort and luxury character.
• 450h L: Pick this if you want the hybrid drivetrain plus the long-wheelbase layout and the larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen as standard. It is the most feature-rich version, but it makes the most sense if you specifically want the extra space and equipment.

The RX has a strong safety package overall, but the optional triple-beam LED headlights are important if you want the best safety result.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Lexus RX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare listings carefully before you commit.

• Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 136 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.71% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $43,758 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $44,017 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,242 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the RX is currently more accessible to used buyers than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value may be steadier than rising, especially if market supply stays healthy. Even so, the RX’s strong reputation for comfort, reliability, and luxury appeal should help it remain attractive to shoppers looking for a premium SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Lexus RX safe?

The Lexus RX has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, but only if equipped with the optional triple-beam LED headlights. It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System 2.0+ is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, lane-departure warning with steering assist, road-sign recognition, lane-keeping assist, lane-tracing assist, a pre-collision system with cyclist- and pedestrian detection, and intelligent high beams. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and Lexus Enform Safety Connect are also standard.

The main caveat is that the RX misses the top-tier IIHS “plus” designation because of its headlights rating. That makes the optional lighting package worth paying attention to if safety is a priority.

Should I buy a 2022 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is a carryover year with only minor changes, including new colours and a standalone fog lamps option.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $49,638 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $44,017 CAD average.
• The redesigned RX adds more modern technology and broader updates.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it delivers the RX’s core strengths at a lower average price. If you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more, the 2023 is the better path; price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2022.

How does the 2022 Lexus RX compare to the 2022 Toyota Venza?

Our experts score the 2022 Lexus RX 7.3/10 and the 2022 Toyota Venza 8.5/10. The RX is the more expensive luxury SUV, while the Venza offers a lower entry price and stronger fuel economy. The RX counters with a more powerful V6, more listings, and a premium-brand feel, but the Venza is the better pick if efficiency and value matter most.
