Used 2022 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearNewmarket, ON

How much does the 2022 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 14.19% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 112 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Land Rover Defender earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.

It stands out as a rugged SUV that bridges Land Rover’s past and present, with two-door 90 and four-door 110 body styles and a strong emphasis on capability rather than outright luxury. The 2022 updates also add a new optional 11.4-inch touchscreen, standard wireless phone charging, and a new V8 powertrain option, which helps it feel more contemporary.

The main trade-offs are a sluggish touchscreen response and poor fuel economy, and advanced safety features are not standard. Even so, 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Defender is built around a rugged, modern interpretation of the original Land Rover formula, and its standard four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case supports that mission. The expert review also notes that the Defender has the ingredients for serious off-road use, including good approach, departure, and breakover angles, plus substantial ground clearance.

Its powertrains are described as refined and unintrusive, and the V8 adds a more dramatic performance character. Land Rover also includes a four-year, 80,000-kilometre warranty and roadside assistance plan, which helps reduce early ownership risk.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term concern is that a capable luxury off-roader can still bring higher running costs, especially if you choose a thirstier version.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is the least equipped, while higher trims add more of the features that make the Defender feel complete. The base screen is smaller, and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is standard on every trim level except the base model.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six mild hybrid, or a V8. The four-cylinder and six-cylinder are adequate, while the V8 is the most powerful and most dramatic option.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter, and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control is optional.
• Infotainment: The standard Pivi Pro system includes a 10-inch central touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. An 11.4-inch touchscreen is newly available for 2022, and the interface is generally easy to use, though the screen can be slow to respond.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder Defender 90 is rated at 12.3 L/100 km combined, while the six-cylinder mild hybrid is also rated at 12.3 L/100 km combined. The V8 is thirstier at 14.3 L/100 km combined in the Defender 90 and 14.7 L/100 km combined in the 110.

Which 2022 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2022 Land Rover Defender is offered in 3 trim levels: Defender 90, Defender 110, and Defender 90 V8.

Here's the short version:

• Defender 90: This is the most affordable way into the lineup and suits you if you want the Defender’s core style and capability without stretching to the pricier versions. It gives you the rugged look, standard 4WD, and the basic infotainment setup, but it misses some of the nicer standard equipment found higher up.
• Defender 110: This is the better choice if you want more practicality and a more versatile layout. It keeps the Defender’s character while giving you the four-door body style that should work better for everyday use.
• Defender 90 V8: This is the performance-focused choice, with the most power and the most equipment. It suits you if you want the most dramatic Defender experience and are willing to accept higher fuel consumption and a much higher price.

The safety package is not especially generous on lower trims, so it is worth checking exactly which driver-assistance features are included on the listing you are considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Land Rover Defender?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 112 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.19% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $55,581 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $55,612 CAD sits slightly below last year's $64,805 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the Defender more attractive to you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more heavily on condition, trim, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Because the current average is still well above the year-round low, there is room for values to vary meaningfully by listing quality. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Defender safe?

The 2022 Land Rover Defender does not have published IIHS or NHTSA crash-test ratings.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance tech includes lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, traffic-sign recognition with speed-limit adapter, and blind-spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control is optional, so you should confirm whether a used example includes it if that matters to you.

A key caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you may need to move up in trim or verify option content carefully.

Should I buy a 2022 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds a new optional 11.4-inch touchscreen, standard wireless phone charging, and a new V8 powertrain.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $60,947 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $55,612 CAD average.
• It adds an extended-length Defender 130 for more practicality.

The bottom line: If you want the better-value path, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and meaningful updates. If you need more practicality and can spend more, the 2023 is worth a look.
