CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Kia Soul
Summary
With 46 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,639 CAD, 32.6% of 2022 Kia Soul listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Kia Soul 5 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Kia Soul stands out because it keeps the model’s quirky, boxy personality while still being genuinely practical. Kia’s buying guide describes the Soul as a subcompact hatchback with a lot of space inside, and that combination of distinctive styling and everyday usefulness is a big part of its appeal. It also notes that the Soul helped shift Kia’s image towards a more appealing, value-conscious brand, which fits the car’s long-running role as something a little different from the usual small hatchback.
For 2022, the Soul sits in the third generation, which brought a new chassis, more current technology, and more comfort-focused packaging. Kia says this generation gained a three-centimetre longer wheelbase and a 5.5-centimetre longer total length, helping create more interior space. It also added features such as dual-zone climate control and wireless phone charging, while the Canadian lineup included a 10.25-inch touchscreen starting at the EX Premium trim, heated front seats and side mirrors as standard, and available driver-assistance features such as lane-keep assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist. For 2022 specifically, a larger eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system became standard and the Soul adopted the brand’s new logo.
There are still a few trade-offs. The guide says the Soul’s turbo engine was discontinued in Canada, and the standard 2.0-litre engine made 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, so outright performance is not the Soul’s main calling card. Even so, the 2022 Soul remains appealing for buyers who want a small vehicle with a lot of room, a strong value proposition, and a design that is easy to recognise in a crowded segment.

I love the Kia Soul, especially with the extra boost because of the turbo. It can really use some more trunk space, that’s the only reason I don’t have this one in my garage. Other than that, this vehicle is AWESOME.

Fun sporty car with heated seats (EX). Feel higher up than compact car and comfortable to get in and out. Back hatch roomy with privacy cover. Great gas mileage 33-37mpg. Glad found new one just delivered to dealer.

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $19,715 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $19,012 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $21,157 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,157 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.81% |

Is the 2022 Kia Soul a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Kia Soul earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. It stands out for its quirky, boxy personality and genuinely practical interior, giving you a small vehicle with a lot of space inside. Kia also positions it as a value-conscious choice, and the 2022 model adds a larger standard touchscreen plus comfort and convenience features that make it easier to live with every day. With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Kia Soul reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Soul’s appeal comes from its practical packaging, comfort-focused third-generation design, and everyday usability. It also benefits from standard heated front seats and side mirrors, plus available driver-assistance features that can make ownership feel easier and more reassuring. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure any recall work and maintenance history are properly documented before you commit.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Soul?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 144 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $19,012 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Kia Soul's resale value?
The current average of $19,715 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,157 CAD.
That softer pricing suggests the Soul is currently more buyer-friendly than seller-friendly, which can affect what you recover later if you buy at the top of the range. If you purchase near the low end, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure over time. The Soul’s practical cabin and distinctive design should help it stay appealing to shoppers who want something different from a typical small hatchback.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Kia Soul or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $21,171 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $19,715 CAD average.
- It adds styling tweaks and a refreshed trim lineup.
The bottom line:
Choose the 2022 if you want the better value and are focused on price, practicality, and a distinctive design. Consider the 2023 if you want the newer look and are willing to pay more for it.
