Is the 2022 Kia Seltos a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Kia Seltos earns 4.8/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, smooth ride, impressive fuel economy, and handling. The overview also points to a practical mix of space and easy-to-use technology, which makes it a strong fit if you want a compact SUV that feels useful every day.

The main trade-offs are an irritating transmission, cheap-feeling interior materials, and a noisy cabin. For shoppers who value comfort, user-friendly features, and good value over polish, it still makes a compelling case.

There are 27.7% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to find a well-priced example.

Is the 2022 Kia Seltos reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary highlights the Seltos as comfortable, smooth-riding, and impressive on fuel economy, while also noting that many owners appreciate its advanced features and handling. That combination points to a vehicle people tend to live with happily over time.

The expert evaluation also describes the Seltos as a better small crossover SUV than many rivals, with a strong warranty and fuel economy that should match the window sticker. Kia’s five-year, 100,000-kilometre warranty and roadside assistance coverage add peace of mind for used buyers.

For used shoppers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the transmission and cabin refinement issues may still matter if the vehicle has been driven hard or poorly maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Kia Seltos?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Canadian lineup includes LX, EX, EX Premium, and SX. The LX is the only trim without standard all-wheel drive, while the EX Premium adds the 10.25-inch infotainment system and upgraded headlights that help it qualify for stronger safety recognition.
• Powertrain: The LX, EX, and EX Premium use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 146 horsepower and a CVT, while the SX gets a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder with 175 hp and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The turbo setup is more satisfying, but the CVT is the simpler base choice.
• Safety package: Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard. From the EX upward, you also get forward-collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and Highway Driving Assist are reserved for the SX.
• Infotainment: The standard 8-inch touchscreen includes wireless smartphone connectivity. The 10.25-inch system starts on the EX Premium and adds navigation, connected services, satellite radio, Bluetooth for two devices, and a six-speaker stereo, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto require a cable connection on that system.
• Fuel efficiency: The SX is rated at 8.7 litres per 100 kilometres in combined driving.

Which 2022 Kia Seltos trim should I buy?

The 2022 Kia Seltos is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX Premium, and SX.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Seltos nameplate. You still get standard blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, plus the choice of front-wheel drive or AWD.
• EX: This is the trim that adds the broader safety suite, including forward-collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. It is the best-value choice if safety equipment matters most.
• EX Premium: This is the smart upgrade if you want the 10.25-inch infotainment system, navigation, connected services, satellite radio, and upgraded headlights. It also keeps the Seltos feeling well equipped without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• SX: This is the most powerful and most feature-rich version, with the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, Bose premium sound system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and Highway Driving Assist. Choose it if you want the most complete Seltos experience.

The EX and higher trims bring the most meaningful safety upgrades, while the EX Premium is the best balance of equipment and value for many shoppers.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Kia Seltos?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have some leverage if you shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 502 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.33% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,085 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Kia Seltos's resale value?

The current average of $21,085 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,328 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher.

The Seltos still has resale support from its strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal as a practical, easy-to-live-with compact SUV. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Kia Seltos safe?

The 2022 Kia Seltos SX earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and the Seltos earns an overall rating of four stars from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard, and from the EX trim upward you also get forward-collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centring assist. The SX adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and Highway Driving Assist.

One important caveat is that not every trim gets the same headlight performance, so the stronger crash-test recognition is tied to the better-equipped versions.

Should I buy a 2022 Kia Seltos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines practical space, easy-to-use technology, and a strong warranty.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,421 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,085 CAD average.
• It was introduced as an all-new model with a high-quality cabin and the latest infotainment and safety technologies.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market value story and a well-rounded compact SUV, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core Seltos strengths.

How does the 2022 Kia Seltos compare to the 2022 Hyundai Kona?

Our experts score the 2022 Kia Seltos 7.5/10 and the 2022 Hyundai Kona 7.7/10. The Kona has the slight edge on paper, but the Seltos counters with more interior space and a stronger value story for shoppers who want a roomier small SUV. The Seltos also brings a broader practical feel, while the Kona is the slightly more efficient and slightly better-rated choice overall.
