Is the 2022 Mazda CX-30 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-30 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, premium-feeling interior, and enjoyable driving dynamics. The user feedback also points to a quiet ride and a spacious cabin, which fits the CX-30’s role as a small SUV that feels more upscale than many rivals.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and the confusing infotainment system. That matters most if you want a simple, low-effort daily driver rather than one that asks you to adapt to its controls.

If you want a subcompact SUV that feels polished, engaging, and more premium than its price suggests, the CX-30 fits that brief well. With 34.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.

Mazda’s unlimited-distance warranty coverage for three years, including roadside assistance, plus five years of powertrain coverage, adds some reassurance for used buyers. Even so, you should still watch for any signs of electrical issues or other wear-related problems before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-30?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GX comes with standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an eight-speaker sound system. The GS adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear climate vents, and available Luxury Package upgrades. The GT adds a power liftgate, paddle shifters, full leather upholstery, a head-up display, and adaptive headlights.
• Powertrain: The GX uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. The GS and GT use a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged 2.5-litre upgrade is only available on the GT and delivers much stronger output.

Higher grades add traffic-sign recognition, front-and-rear parking sensors, and reverse automatic emergency braking.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-30 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is offered in 3 trim levels: GX, GS, and GT.

Here's the short version:

• GX: This is the value-focused entry point if you want standard all-wheel drive, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the core CX-30 experience without stretching the budget.
• GS: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, rear vents, and a more upscale feel without jumping to the top price tier.
• GT: Choose this if you want the most premium equipment, including leather upholstery, a head-up display, adaptive headlights, and the option to pair it with the turbocharged engine.

The GT is also the only trim that can be paired with the turbocharged engine, and the Advanced Visibility Package is required with that setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-30?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 270 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.89% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $24,993 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-30's resale value?

The current average of $24,997 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,370 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-30 has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier to attract interest if you decide to sell later. A softer market today can also mean you may need to price competitively to stand out against similar listings.

At the same time, the model’s premium image and strong owner satisfaction should help it remain appealing to shoppers who want a small SUV with a more upscale feel. If demand stays steady, that should support resale value better than a more ordinary competitor.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-30 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing wipers. Available driver-assistance features include forward collision avoidance, pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Higher grades add traffic-sign recognition, front-and-rear parking sensors, and reverse automatic emergency braking.

One caveat is that most of the advanced driver-assistance features are not standard in Canada, so you may need to move up the trim ladder to get the full suite.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-30 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines upscale design, standard all-wheel drive, and strong safety credentials.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,912 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $24,997 CAD average.
• It offers a more premium-feeling turbocharged setup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,151 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $24,997 CAD average.
• It brings a classy interior and enjoyable driving dynamics with a tighter, more compact feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and upscale character, the 2022 is the strongest all-around pick. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 is worth a look; if you want to spend more for a newer alternative, the 2023 remains appealing.
