What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the only trim offered with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive in Canada, while the EX, EX Premium, and SX Turbo all include standard AWD. The LX brings 16-inch steel wheels, heated front seats, remote keyless entry, power windows, and an 8-inch touchscreen, while the EX adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, automatic climate control, and leatherette upholstery. The EX Premium adds a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, LED headlights and fog lamps, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting. The SX Turbo adds the more powerful engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, an upgraded audio system, and additional driver-assistance features.
• Powertrain: The LX, EX, and EX Premium use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 146 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and either FWD or AWD depending on trim. The SX Turbo uses a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder with 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, and standard AWD. The base engine is fine around town, but it can feel short on power at highway speeds.
• Safety package: The base LX includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a feature that can detect if it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking. All trims but the base LX include collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go. These driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: The LX and EX come with an 8-inch touchscreen and a 3.5-inch TFT digital screen in the instrument panel. The EX Premium and SX Turbo upgrade to a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital display. Wireless phone charging is included on the EX Premium, and the SX Turbo adds a Bose premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-litre engine with front-wheel drive is rated at 8.2 L/100 km city, 7.1 highway, and 7.7 combined. With AWD, that engine is rated at 8.8 L/100 km city, 7.6 highway, and 8.2 combined. The 1.6-litre AWD test car is rated at 9.4 city, 7.9 highway, and 8.7 combined.

Which 2021 Kia Seltos trim should I buy?

The 2021 Kia Seltos is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, EX Premium, and SX Turbo.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and key safety tech such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra comfort and tech upgrades.
• EX: This trim adds a sunroof, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, and nicer wheels, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want a more polished feel without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• EX Premium: This is the sweet spot if you want the bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, LED lighting, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting. It also adds more driver-assistance features, so it suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• SX Turbo: Choose this one if you want the strongest engine, standard AWD, an upgraded audio system, and the most complete feature set. It is the right pick if you want the most power and equipment rather than the best value.

All trims but the base LX include the full suite of driver-assistance safety features, while the EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Kia Seltos?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 311 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.22% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,305 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Kia Seltos's resale value?

The current average of $19,421 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,875 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests buyers have more leverage today than they did a year ago, which can make the Seltos easier to move if you price it competitively later. The current market also shows a fairly tight year-round range, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter when you go to resell. If you buy well now, you may be better positioned to limit depreciation pressure when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Kia Seltos safe?

The 2021 Kia Seltos earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS and a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, including four-star ratings for frontal crash and rollover performance and five-star ratings for side impacts.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and child-seat anchor latches for the rear seats. In Canada, the base LX also includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a feature that can detect if it is safe to exit the vehicle when parallel parking on the street. All trims but the base LX add collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and lane-keep assist. The EX Premium and SX Turbo add adaptive cruise control with idle stop-and-go.

The main caveat is that some trims lose points for headlight performance and LATCH ease of use, so it is worth checking the exact trim and equipment before you buy.

Should I buy a 2021 Kia Seltos or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a high-quality cabin, refined driving dynamics, and strong standard equipment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $21,085 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $19,421 CAD average.
• It adds a practical mix of space, easy-to-use technology, and a strong warranty.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better pick if you want the lower average price and strong owner satisfaction. If you are price-sensitive, it is the smarter year to target. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2022 may appeal for its broader everyday polish.
