The Grand Cherokee’s appeal also comes through in its blend of everyday comfort, premium-leaning refinement, and serious capability. For you, that means it suits shoppers who want a two-row SUV that can handle rough weather and tougher terrain without giving up a polished cabin.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Laredo is the most affordable and keeps things basic, while Trailhawk adds off-roading equipment and capability, and Summit Reserve focuses on luxury. Lower trims use a more functional matte-black finish, while higher trims can have gloss-black controls that are harder to use because of reflections.
• Powertrain: You can choose a V6 or a V8, both paired with 4WD and an 8-speed automatic. The V6 is the more efficient choice and still delivers good acceleration and passing power, while the V8 adds stronger towing and a more muscular feel.
• Safety package: The Grand Cherokee includes blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, Intersection Collision Assist, and Active Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. Active Driving Assist can disconnect on tighter curves, so you should test it carefully.
• Infotainment: Uconnect 5 is standard, with an 8.4-inch touchscreen on most trims and a 10.1-inch screen standard on Summit and Summit Reserve. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system supports over-the-air updates.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates range from 11.3 L/100 km with the V6 to 14.1 L/100 km with the V8 in combined driving. The expert test also recorded 11.0 L/100 km with the V6 and 13.8 L/100 km with the V8.

Which 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 7 trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the value-focused starting point if you want the Grand Cherokee’s core design and capability without paying for extras. It keeps the cabin simpler, but it still looks and feels more expensive than you might expect.
• Altitude: Choose this if you want a step up in appearance and equipment while staying relatively close to the entry point. It keeps the Grand Cherokee formula intact without pushing into the pricier luxury trims.
• Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and tech while staying below the premium-focused upper trims. It also unlocks the optional front passenger interactive display starting here.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road ability is your priority. It adds Quadra-Drive II, an electronic locking rear differential, air suspension, skid plates, all-terrain tyres, and off-road tools like Selec-Speed control and a forward-facing off-road camera.
• Overland: This trim suits you if you want a more upscale feel and the ability to pair with the more advanced Quadra-Trac II system. It sits in the middle of the range with a stronger luxury lean.
• Summit: This is for buyers who want a more premium cabin and can justify the higher price. It can also be equipped with Quadra-Drive II.
• Summit Reserve: This is the plushest version, with premium quilted and stitched leather, heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, a McIntosh audio system, and a panoramic sunroof. It also comes standard with Quadra-Drive II.

Safety-wise, the Grand Cherokee’s driver-assistance package is broad, but you should still verify which features are standard on the specific trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The market looks moderately favourable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 596 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.81% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $33,704 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $33,704 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,658 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside for a future seller. If you buy at the current average, you’re starting from a lower base than owners who bought a year ago. That can make depreciation feel less steep in the near term, but resale value will still depend on trim, condition, mileage, and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep equips it with blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, full-speed forward collision warning, Intersection Collision Assist, and Active Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assistance. The structure also uses extensive aluminium and high-strength steel, which supports the Grand Cherokee’s safety-focused redesign.

Active Driving Assist is a strong feature, but you should still test it on roads similar to your daily commute, since it can disconnect on tighter curves and requires you to stay engaged.

Should I buy a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a redesigned cabin, stronger technology, and a more sophisticated feel than the outgoing model.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,142 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $33,704 CAD average.
• It offers the familiar older Grand Cherokee formula with a spacious interior, smooth ride, strong off-road ability, and a luxury feel.

The bottom line: If you want the newer design, better tech, and a more premium overall package, the 2022 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable with the older-generation formula, the 2021 remains a sensible alternative.

How does the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee compare to the 2022 Ford Explorer?

Our experts score the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 8/10 and the 2022 Ford Explorer 7.5/10. The Grand Cherokee leans more toward off-road capability and premium-feeling refinement, while the Explorer offers a slightly lower starting price and stronger highway fuel-consumption figure in the comparison data.
