Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson stands out for its redesign, which made it longer and wider than before and gave it more cargo and passenger space. That extra room is a major part of its appeal in the compact SUV class, especially for buyers who want a practical family vehicle without moving up to a larger SUV.
Hyundai also gave the 2022 Tucson a high-tech cabin, a comfortable ride, a competent engine lineup, and a spacious cargo area. Those strengths make it feel well rounded and competitive, with enough everyday usability and comfort to attract shoppers looking for a modern compact SUV that can handle commuting, errands, and family duties. Some owners do note a lack of engine power and a desire for more cargo space or larger cupholders, but the overall impression is of a stylish, comfortable SUV that leaves many buyers very satisfied.

I love all the bells and whistles! The ability to set all your personal preferences-seat settings, heat/air,radio,phone,dash board view, and with your name! The blind spots are nice. It was a great deal with decent low mileage, limited AWD, I got more for my money. Fully covered with great warrantys

I LOVE this car! I researched and waited for the right one for months! I am so pleased with how smooth it drives and the fancy features! My know knock would be the lack of power. It doesn’t accelerate very quickly but I didn’t really expect it to. Overall I’m obsessed and can’t wait to drive it for many years to come

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.82/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, excellent safety features, stylish design, comfort, and spacious interior. That lines up well with its role as a practical compact SUV for commuting, errands, and family duties, especially if you want a modern cabin and everyday usability. There are some recurring complaints about engine power and a wish for more cargo space or larger cupholders, but the overall feedback is strongly positive.
With 29.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, trouble-free, and easy to count on over time. The smooth ride and strong satisfaction from families also suggest that the Tucson fits well into long-term ownership for buyers who value comfort and consistency.
Hyundai’s 5-year/100,000-kilometre limited warranty adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers, though you should still pay close attention to service history and overall condition before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Essential trim is the most basic version, while Preferred adds roof rails, heated outside mirrors, blind-spot monitoring indicators, rear cross-traffic avoidance assist indicators and turn signals, front aero wipers, keyless entry, and the option to add a Trend Package with a sunroof. Higher grades bring premium fascias, front and rear skid plates, gloss black pillars, a panoramic sunroof, and more upscale cabin materials.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.5-litre direct-injected four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, or a hybrid powertrain with a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder and an electric motor. The gas engine is described as capable and competent, while the hybrid is the more powerful and more engaging option.
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes standard forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, and rear occupant alert. Cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade. Available features include blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, parking collision avoidance assist, and remote parking assist.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD Radio, a six-speaker audio system, and two USB ports. Preferred adds satellite radio, Blue Link mobile app compatibility, rear USB outlets, rear air vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control. A 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation is available on higher trim levels.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive gas model is targeted at 8.2 L/100 km combined, while the all-wheel-drive gas model is targeted at 9.0 L/100 km combined. The hybrid is rated at 6.4 L/100 km combined.
Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, and Luxury.
Here's the short version:
- Essential: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Tucson’s core redesign, standard LED daytime running lights, Bi-LED headlights, LED front turn signals, stain- and odour-resistant cloth seats, and the basic tech suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
- Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds key convenience and safety upgrades such as roof rails, heated outside mirrors, blind-spot monitoring indicators, rear cross-traffic avoidance assist indicators and turn signals, front aero wipers, keyless entry, satellite radio, Blue Link, rear USB outlets, rear air vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
- N Line: This trim is the style-forward choice, with sport combination seats, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a more distinctive appearance. It suits you if you want the Tucson to feel a bit more upscale and visually different.
- Luxury: This is the most premium gas trim in the lineup, bringing the higher-end equipment and finishes that sit above the Preferred and N Line grades.
The safety package is broad across the lineup, but cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade, so that trim is the key step up if safety tech matters most.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 494 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.28% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,026 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $23,218 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,407 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Tucson has become more affordable for used buyers, which can make it easier to move if you price yours competitively later. For a future seller, the softer market means you may need to be realistic on asking price, especially if you want to stand out against the current inventory.
At the same time, the Tucson’s strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal as a practical compact SUV should help support demand over time. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The Hyundai SmartSense Safety Feature suite includes standard forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, and rear occupant alert. Cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade, and shoppers can also get blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, blind-spot monitoring, forward and reverse park distance warning, parking collision avoidance assist, ultrasonic rear occupant alert, and remote parking assist.
The main caveat is that the 2022 Tucson has not been tested and rated by IIHS or NHTSA, so you do not get crash-test results to lean on here. Even so, the standard and available safety equipment is extensive for the class.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.28% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesigned 2022 Tucson brings a longer, wider body, more cargo and passenger space, and a high-tech cabin that make it especially appealing for family use.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Tucson with strong owner satisfaction, a comfortable ride, and a well-equipped cabin, the 2022 is the right year to target. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you may still want to compare nearby model years and focus on the best-priced listings rather than the newest example.
