What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Essential trim is the most basic version, while Preferred adds features such as blind-spot monitoring indicators and turn signals, heated outside mirrors, front aero wipers, and keyless entry. Higher grades add more premium touches, including a panoramic sunroof on equipped models, so base-trim feature gaps matter if you want a more complete daily-driver setup.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a 2.5-litre direct-injected four-cylinder engine and a hybrid powertrain with a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. The gas engine is described as capable and competent but uninspiring, while the hybrid brings more power and stronger efficiency.
• Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes standard forward collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, automatic high beams, a driver attention monitor, and rear occupant alert. Cyclist and pedestrian detection is added at the Preferred grade, and additional available features include blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, Bluetooth, and two USB ports. Preferred adds satellite radio, Blue Link mobile app compatibility, rear USB outlets, rear air conditioning vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control, while a 10.25-inch screen with navigation is available on higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive gas model is targeted at 8.2 L/100 km combined, while the all-wheel-drive gas model is targeted at 9.0 L/100 km combined. The hybrid is rated at 6.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 5 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, Luxury, and Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Tucson’s core redesign, standard tech, and practical space at the lowest price. It is the trim to consider if you care most about value and can live without the extra convenience and safety upgrades found higher up.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades such as blind-spot monitoring indicators, heated outside mirrors, keyless entry, rear air vents, dual-zone climate control, and more connected tech. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the one to target.
• N Line: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance and the more distinctive cabin treatment, including sport combination seats and unique wheel design. It is the right pick if style matters more to you than maximum value.
• Luxury: This trim is the better fit if you want to move closer to a more premium feel, especially in the hybrid lineup where it brings more upscale equipment and 19-inch wheels.
• Ultimate: This is the top choice if you want the most fully equipped Tucson, especially in hybrid form, and are willing to pay for the most complete feature set.

The safety package is especially comprehensive, and the Preferred grade is notable because it adds cyclist and pedestrian detection to the standard suite.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?

The current average of $22,832 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,980 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Tucson has become more accessible to used buyers, which can make it easier for future sellers to attract interest if they price competitively. The current market also shows a fairly broad spread between the low and high end of the year-round range, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter when you eventually resell. Strong owner satisfaction helps too, because shoppers tend to respond well to models with a good reputation for comfort and practicality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

That is a very comprehensive list for a compact SUV.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign gives you more space, a high-tech cabin, and a well-rounded compact SUV package.

The bottom line: The 2022 Tucson is a strong choice if you want the redesigned model with more space, better tech, and a softer used-market price than it had a year ago. If you are price-sensitive, this year looks especially appealing because the market has cooled enough to create some negotiating room, while still giving you the core strengths that make the Tucson attractive in the first place.
