Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating and 8/10 expert rating both point to a strong overall package. The Sonata is framed as a midsize sedan that delivers exceptional value and a clear sense of quality, while also offering a surprisingly sporty N Line variant for shoppers who want more personality. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

That combination makes sense if you want a practical daily driver that still feels well finished and distinctive. With 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market also gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata reliable?

The Sonata is presented as a well-rounded midsize sedan with a strong warranty and a broad set of standard safety and convenience features, which supports confidence for everyday ownership. Its powertrains are described as competent and its cabin as serene, both of which are good signs if you want a car that should feel easy to live with over time. Hyundai also backs it with a five-year or 100,000 kilometre powertrain warranty.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that some trims may need careful feature-by-feature comparison so you get the equipment level you expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Sonata?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Preferred gives you a strong value starting point with LED lighting, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8-inch touchscreen, and adaptive cruise control, while the Sport adds a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and larger wheels. Luxury brings leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and the Bose audio system, and the N Line adds the sportiest appearance and equipment. The base trim is the one most likely to feel lightest on extras.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-litre four-cylinder makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, while the 1.6-litre turbo four makes 180 hp and 195 lb-ft. The N Line uses a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 290 hp, an eight-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission, and sport suspension. All versions are front-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision avoidance assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear occupant alert, and Safe Exit Warning. Highway Driving Assist lane-centring assistance and a blind-spot view monitor are standard on N Line and Ultimate Hybrid, so lower trims miss those items.
• Infotainment: Base SE versions get an 8-inch touchscreen, six speakers, HD Radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, USB, and a rear-view camera. Higher trims move to a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless charging, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel consumption ranges from 7.7 L/100 km on lower trims to 8.8 L/100 km on the N Line. During testing, it averaged 7.7 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Hyundai Sonata trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata is offered in 4 trim levels: Preferred, Sport, Luxury, and N Line.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the best-value starting point if you want the Sonata’s core strengths without stretching the budget. You still get heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and a solid safety and infotainment package.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and a few comfort upgrades, including a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and larger wheels. It is the step up that adds more everyday polish.
• Luxury: This is the trim to target if comfort matters most. The leather seats, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and Bose audio system make it the most premium-feeling non-N Line choice.
• N Line: Pick this if you want the most character. It adds the 290-hp turbocharged engine, sport suspension, wet dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the most aggressive styling and tech content.

For safety equipment, note that Highway Driving Assist lane-centring assistance and a blind-spot view monitor are standard only on N Line and Ultimate Hybrid.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

The current average of $21,967 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,460 CAD.

That drop suggests the Sonata has become more attractive to used buyers, which can help keep demand steady in the near term. The good news is that the Sonata’s value-focused reputation should help it remain appealing to shoppers who want a well-equipped midsize sedan without paying top dollar.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Sonata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong value, quality, and a sporty N Line option in a midsize-sedan package.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $18,987 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,967 CAD average.
• It is a credible choice for drivers who still want a sedan that is fun to drive.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-round package, the 2022 is the better pick because it balances value, quality, safety, and trim variety. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter budget path, especially if you want a sedan with a more performance-focused personality.
