How much does the 2022 Hyundai Kona cost?

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.92/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, safety features, impressive tech, sleek design, and smooth handling. That lines up well with the Kona’s refreshed styling and added performance for 2022, especially if you want a small SUV that feels more distinctive than a basic commuter. It also fits shoppers who want a city-friendly crossover with upgraded convenience and connectivity.

There are 27.3% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the Kona’s fun driving character, safety features, and smooth handling. The expert drive notes also support that impression by describing the Kona as composed, stable, and quiet for its price point.

Hyundai’s five-year/100,000-kilometre new vehicle limited warranty, including powertrain coverage, adds another layer of confidence for used buyers. Even so, you should still check service records and verify that the vehicle has been maintained on schedule, since long-term ownership risk always depends on how the previous owner treated it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Essential trim gets the refreshed exterior styling and an 8-inch display, but it misses some of the convenience and connected-services upgrades found higher up the range. The N Line adds sportier styling and a more upscale feel, while the Kona N pushes the performance theme much further.
• Powertrain: The Essential and Preferred use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with a CVT, while the N Line upgrades to a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder with a seven-speed DCT. The Kona N uses a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with an N eight-speed wet DCT and performance-focused hardware.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available features include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, and rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance.
• Infotainment: The base model gets an 8-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add Hyundai BlueLink, while the Kona N gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and traffic information.
• Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel consumption for all FWD Konas except the Kona N is 7.4 L/100 km. AWD versions are rated at 7.9 to 8.2 L/100 km, and the Kona N is rated at 10.4 L/100 km combined.

Which 2022 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, N Line, Kona N.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point, and it gives you the refreshed Kona design, the 8-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the core safety basics. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• Preferred: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds SiriusXM satellite radio and Hyundai BlueLink, and it can be paired with the Sun & Leather Package for more comfort and driver-assistance features.
• N Line: This is the sweet spot if you want the strongest mix of style, equipment, and value. It adds the turbocharged 1.6-litre engine, sportier design details, and access to the Ultimate Package, which brings major tech and convenience upgrades.
• Kona N: This is the performance choice, with the most powerful engine, the most aggressive hardware, and the most advanced infotainment and driver-focused features.

The safety package is fairly limited on lower trims, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, look closely at package content before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent options.

• Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 418 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.63% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,114 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $21,114 CAD sits slightly below last year's $24,166 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Kona has become more accessible for used buyers, which can make it easier for a future seller to attract interest if the vehicle is well equipped and well maintained. The current market also shows that shoppers are still responding to the Kona’s refreshed styling, strong tech, and sporty variants, which helps support demand.

If you own one now, the softer pricing means you may not see the same resale strength as in the prior year, but a clean history and desirable trim can still help you stand out. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona earns five-star ratings for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for front and side crash protection and four-star ratings for rollover resistance. It also received Good ratings in all six IIHS crashworthiness tests, though its child-seat anchors were rated Marginal, which kept it from earning Top Safety Pick status.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available technologies include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, and rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance.

The main caveat is that the safety menu is somewhat limited on lower trims, so you may need to move up the lineup or add a package if you want more advanced driver assistance.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings the first significant refresh, with updated styling, enhanced powertrains, and more tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,196 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $21,114 CAD average.
• It offers strong styling and a value-forward trim spread.

The bottom line: If you want the refreshed look, improved tech, and broader performance choices, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 remains a sensible alternative, especially if you find one in good condition with the features you want.
