What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims differ most in appearance, materials, and equipment. The base trim misses some of the richer interior touches and convenience features you get as you move up, while Touring brings the most upscale cabin and technology.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower, while Touring adds a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 180 horsepower. Both pair with a CVT, and the turbo engine is the more satisfying choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The proper blind-spot warning system and rear cross-traffic alert are part of the updated safety setup, with rear cross-traffic alert added on Touring.
• Infotainment: Every model gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Touring upgrades to a 9-inch screen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, satellite radio, and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The Touring returned 7.7 L/100 km on a 150-kilometre driving loop, while Natural Resources Canada’s combined estimate is 6.9 L/100 km.

Which 2022 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2022 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic’s core strengths without the higher price of the upper trims. It suits you if you want the redesigned Civic experience and standard safety tech at the lowest cost.
• EX: This trim is the better-value step up if you want a more rounded daily driver. It adds more comfort and convenience than LX without jumping all the way to Touring pricing.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a slightly more expressive version of the Civic with a sportier feel and appearance. It keeps the 2.0-litre engine but adds a more engaging character.
• Touring: This is the best-equipped trim and the one to buy if you want the strongest mix of technology, audio quality, and premium features. It gets the turbocharged engine, larger digital display, 9-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone integration, and the most complete feature set.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, and Touring adds rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Civic?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 848 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.22% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,626 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $23,626 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,317 CAD.

That price movement suggests the Civic has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. Because the current average is still supported by strong demand and broad market interest, you may see steadier resale performance than with many compact cars. The model’s strong owner satisfaction also helps keep buyer attention on used listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Honda Civic safe?

The 2022 Honda Civic earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard and includes Traffic Jam Assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and Lane Keeping Assist. The system also uses a wide-view front camera and ultrasonic sonar sensors, and the Civic adds a proper blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert. Rear-seat reminder is standard as well.

The safety package is strong overall, but rear cross-traffic alert is reserved for Touring, so you should confirm the trim’s equipment if that feature matters to you.

Should I buy a 2022 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesign brings fresh engineering and technology, with a strong overall impression and few exceptions.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,269 CAD, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,626 CAD average.
• It remains a proven outgoing generation with appealing lease and financing deals.

The bottom line: If you want the newer redesign, stronger technology, and a more modern driving experience, the 2022 is the better pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 remains a sensible alternative with a strong reputation.
