Is the 2021 Honda Civic a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Honda Civic earns 5/5 from users and 7.2/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its stylish design, great fuel economy, comfortable ride, spacious trunk, and enjoyable driving experience. In use, that lines up with the Civic’s practical everyday appeal and its strong reputation as a proven compact car. For you, that means a car that works well if you want a well-rounded commuter with real utility and a driving experience that still feels engaging.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free over the long term. The expert assessment also emphasises peace of mind, noting that you know it will be reliable and fuel-efficient. Honda’s low-rate financing and the Civic’s strong value retention reinforce that sense of confidence for ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about finding one that has been cared for properly, since neglected examples can erase the Civic’s usual ownership advantages.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX, EX, and Sport trims are the more basic versions, while the Touring adds the 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, a 10-speaker audio system, HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, and on-board navigation. The base setup uses a 5-inch LCD screen, so you should check whether the features you want are standard or reserved for the Touring.
• Powertrain: The LX, EX, and Sport use a 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and a CVT, while the Touring gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. The turbo engine is the stronger and more satisfying choice, while the CVT helps fuel economy but can drone.
• Safety package: Every Civic gets Honda Sensing, including adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a multi-angle rearview camera. LaneWatch starts with the EX trim, and there is no traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system or rear cross-traffic warning.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 5-inch LCD screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, text messaging support, and HondaLink connected services. The Touring upgrades to a 7-inch touchscreen, but the system still feels dated compared with newer rivals.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive data records a combined fuel consumption figure of 7.1 L/100 km, with 7.8 L/100 km in the city and 6.2 L/100 km on the highway. The test loop returned 6.8 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the simplest way into the Civic, with the standard 5-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Honda Sensing. It makes sense if you want the Civic’s core strengths without paying for extras.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds LaneWatch, giving you more driver-assistance coverage without jumping all the way to the Touring.
• Sport: Choose this if you want the same basic powertrain as the LX and EX but prefer the sportier presentation and available 18-inch wheels.
• Touring: This is the most fully equipped Civic, with the turbocharged engine, 7-inch touchscreen, premium audio, navigation, and the top-rated headlight setup tied to the Civic’s best safety result.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, but the Touring is the trim tied to the Civic’s top IIHS result.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Honda Civic?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 903 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.38% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $21,269 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Honda Civic's resale value?

The current average of $21,269 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,964 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future sellers may face a less aggressive market than they did a year ago. Even so, the Civic’s strong reputation, broad appeal, and steady demand should help it remain relatively easy to move when it’s time to sell. Its value story is still supported by the model’s popularity and the fact that shoppers continue to seek out well-kept examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Honda Civic safe?

The 2021 Honda Civic earns Top Safety Pick from the IIHS and five-star ratings in every single NHTSA assessment.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, lane keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a multi-angle rearview camera. LaneWatch is available starting with the EX trim, but the Civic does not offer a traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system or rear cross-traffic warning.

The IIHS rating applies only to Touring trim, which has the top-rated LED headlights.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the outgoing generation, which gives you proven hardware and a distinctive place in the Civic lineup.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $19,989 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,269 CAD average.
• It adds minor design tweaks plus more standard safety and convenience features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,626 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,269 CAD average.
• It brings a full redesign with fresh engineering and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the proven outgoing Civic with strong owner satisfaction and softer pricing, the 2021 is the main target. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 is the smarter value play; if you want the newest design and tech, move up to the 2022.
