What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Pro is the stripped-down work-truck choice with cloth seats and basic amenities, while the SLE and SLT add more comfort and convenience. The AT4 is aimed at off-road use, and the Denali is the luxury-oriented trim. The AT4 and Denali are crew-cab only.
• Powertrain: You can choose between the standard 6.6-litre gas V8 and the optional Duramax turbodiesel paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic. The diesel brings abundant power, while the gas engine is still described as strong.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic warning, following distance indicator, hill-descent control, HD Surround Vision, a rear-seat reminder system, Safety Alert Seat, and front and rear park assist. The Teen Driver system is standard.
• Infotainment: Depending on trim, you get a 7-inch or 8-inch colour touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on SLT and above, available on SLE, and not offered on the base Pro. A navigation system is standard on Denali and available on SLT and AT4.
• Fuel efficiency: During testing, it averaged 16.3 L/100 km in combined driving without a trailer. If you tow or haul regularly, expect fuel use to climb.

Which 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD is offered in 5 trim levels: Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the value-first work-truck trim, with cloth seats and basic amenities rather than luxury features. It makes sense if you want maximum capability without paying for extras.
• SLE: This is the first step up for shoppers who want more comfort and convenience while staying relatively sensible on price. It adds more mainstream appeal and is a better fit if you want a more everyday-friendly truck.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it adds a stronger mix of comfort and technology, including standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want a well-equipped truck without jumping to luxury pricing, this is the one to focus on.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-focused version with rugged styling and hardware such as skid plates, all-terrain tyres, and off-road suspension tuning. It suits you best if you want capability beyond towing and hauling.
• Denali: This is the luxury pick, with premium cabin content and the most upscale presentation in the lineup. It is the right choice if you want the Sierra 2500HD to feel as refined as possible.

The safety content does not identify a trim-specific safety package gap, but it does make clear that you should choose as many safety systems and camera views as your budget allows.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 115 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.35% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $60,560 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $60,560 CAD sits slightly below last year's $63,985 CAD.

That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. A truck that is already priced near the lower end of the range may have less room to depreciate quickly, while higher-priced examples could be harder to move later.

Strong owner satisfaction helps support demand, especially for a truck that buyers see as capable and comfortable. Well-equipped examples with the right configuration should remain easier to resell than bare-bones trucks.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The Teen Driver system is standard, which is useful if you plan to share the truck with a newer driver. The expert assessment also recommends choosing as many safety systems and camera views as you can afford, since the truck’s size makes visibility especially important.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary highlights that the truck is not just about towing and hauling; it also brings off-road ability, design, infotainment, trailering technology, and safety into the mix.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck with strong capability, broad feature content, and a market that is a bit more buyer-friendly than last year, the 2022 is the one to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a lower-priced example gives you the equipment you want for less money.
