Is the 2022 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.75/5 user-rated SUV with an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise the handling, interior quality, and spaciousness, and they also like the comfort, driving feel, and overall aesthetics. That lines up well with the MDX’s role as a three-row luxury crossover that aims to balance refinement with everyday practicality.

You also get a fresh new platform, a new interior look, and a more assertive design, which should appeal if you want something more expressive than a typical family hauler. With 29.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market offers some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Acura MDX reliable?

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the MDX’s long-term appeal, comfort, and overall quality. Acura also highlights the MDX as a vehicle with strong engineering and a solid, quality feel, which supports confidence for used buyers. For you, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the technology and feature set match your expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Acura MDX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base MDX gets standard Jewel Eye LED headlights, 19-inch wheels, Premium Audio, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, while Tech and above add 20-inch wheels and more upscale equipment. The base trim is the most feature-light, so check whether you want the extra convenience and luxury features that come with the higher grades.
• Powertrain: You get one engine choice: a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6 with 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic and Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive. It’s tuned for smooth, confident road manners rather than outright efficiency.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch is standard, and it includes collision mitigation emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, driver attention monitor, expanded pedestrian detection capability, blind spot monitoring, and traffic-jam assist. There are no trim-level safety gaps in the standard safety suite.
• Infotainment: All models get a 12.3-inch landscape-oriented infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Qi-compatible wireless charging, built-in Amazon Alexa, a WiFi hotspot, and over-the-air software updates. The screen is not a touchscreen, so make sure you’re comfortable with the touchpad-based interface.
• Fuel efficiency: No fuel-consumption figure is stated in the available data.

Which 2022 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Acura MDX is offered in 4 trim levels: MDX, Tech, A-Spec, and Platinum Elite.

Here’s the short version:

• MDX: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core MDX experience: the V6, SH-AWD, standard AcuraWatch safety tech, wireless smartphone integration, and the 12.3-inch display. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra luxury and audio upgrades.
• Tech: This is the best-value trim. It adds navigation and a stronger ELS Studio audio system, and the data specifically calls it the sweet spot in the lineup. If you want the most balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the one to target.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want the sportiest appearance and the upgraded ELS Studio 3D Premium Audio System. It also adds CabinTalk, which may matter if you regularly carry passengers in the second and third rows.
• Platinum Elite: This is the luxury-focused choice, with the top audio system, head-up display, surround-view camera, and the most premium feature set. It suits you best if you want the most complete MDX and are willing to pay for it.

The standard AcuraWatch safety package is included across the lineup, so you don’t need to move up trims for core driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 93 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.26% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $41,917 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $41,921 CAD sits slightly below last year's $48,331 CAD.

That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper future resale gains if you plan to sell soon. For a future owner, the current softness means there may be less room for appreciation, especially if inventory stays healthy.

Even so, the MDX’s strong owner satisfaction and broad appeal as a three-row luxury crossover should help support demand over time. If you keep it in good condition and choose a desirable trim, it should remain easier to move than a less popular luxury SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Acura MDX safe?

The 2022 Acura MDX is a Top Safety Pick + from the IIHS, giving it top marks in every category.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The AcuraWatch suite is standard on all MDX models, and it includes collision mitigation emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, driver attention monitor, expanded pedestrian detection capability, blind spot monitoring, and traffic-jam assist.

The MDX also adds a low-speed braking control system that can detect objects and pedestrians, warn you, and brake automatically if needed. That said, the NHTSA has not yet rated this model year in the provided data.

Should I buy a 2022 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings a new platform, a new interior, and a more assertive design.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $47,864 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $41,921 CAD average.
• It adds a more polished confidence-inspiring feel.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2022 if you want the better value and the freshest redesign at a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year, the 2023 is the alternative to compare, but price-sensitive buyers will likely find the 2022 the smarter buy.
