CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Tundra
overall

Summary
With 95 currently listed for sale and an average price of $46,757 CAD, 33.7% of 2021 Toyota Tundra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Tundra 4.55 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Tundra stands out because it is an older full-size pickup that still manages to feel relevant. Its design and underpinnings date back to the mid-2000s, yet Toyota has kept it competitive with key updates and special editions. That gives it a different appeal from newer trucks that lean heavily on the latest in-car technology and oversized screens. For buyers who care more about a truck’s core job than about chasing every new gadget, that straightforward approach can be a strength.
That age also shapes the Tundra’s appeal and its limitations. The truck’s long-running formula can be attractive to shoppers who value simplicity, quality construction, spaciousness, powerful performance, reliability, and a smooth ride. At the same time, the lack of modern tech features and poor fuel economy may be drawbacks for some buyers. Overall, the 2021 Toyota Tundra is distinctive because it combines an established, proven design with enough updates to remain a practical choice in a rapidly changing segment.

Smooth ride, very quite, and comfortable. We love it and won’t be buying but a Toyota Tundra from now on; I just wish that I checked into them sooner, my wife had been wanting one for years. Yes, it is a good value. Only thing missing on mine is a hard cover camper for the bed. But I plan on getting that taken care of. Compared to my last truck, 1500 Ram has nothing on this truck. This truck has more in its extras, smoother and quiter ride, and it looks better.

How much does the 2021 Toyota Tundra cost?

| Current Average Price | $46,744 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $45,918 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $54,006 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $50,282 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.04% |
Prices have softened 7.04% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 97 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.55/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, powerful performance, and reliability, while also highlighting the smooth ride and quality construction. For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you value a straightforward full-size pickup that focuses on core capability rather than the latest cabin tech. The market also shows 35.1% of listings as good or great deals, which adds some shopping flexibility.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.55/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and the review summary also uses language that reinforces the Tundra’s dependable, trouble-free character over the long term. The expert assessment likewise frames it as a truck that stays relevant through proven engineering and a durable, work-ready approach. Toyota’s standard maintenance and ownership-friendly packaging help support that reputation.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic dependability and more about accepting an older design with dated tech and higher fuel use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Double Cab includes standard 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, and heated front seats. Higher trims and packages add features such as leather seating, ventilated front seats, memory functions, and upgraded exterior details, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want more comfort or convenience.
- Powertrain: You get a standard 5.7-litre V8 with 391 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive with low range. It delivers strong acceleration and confident towing, but it is not the most efficient setup.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are optional, so check whether the truck you are considering has them.
- Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, multiple USB ports, and available navigation. The layout is simple and easy to use, with hard buttons that make operation straightforward.
- Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada ratings are 18.0 L/100 km in the city, 14.2 L/100 km on the highway, and 16.3 L/100 km combined. In mixed driving, the observed average was 17.0 L/100 km.
Which 2021 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: Double Cab, CrewMax SR5, CrewMax Platinum, Trail Special Edition, TRD Offroad, and TRD Pro.
Here's the short version:
- Double Cab: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Tundra formula with standard 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, and the updated 8-inch touchscreen. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model and do not need the extra comfort or appearance upgrades.
- CrewMax SR5: This is the best-value choice if you want the roomier cab and a more family-friendly layout without jumping too far up the price ladder. It is also the trim used for the Trail Special Edition package, which adds black badging, dark grey wheels, a unique grille, and Predator side steps.
- CrewMax Platinum: This is the comfort-focused pick, with heated and ventilated front seats, memory functions, chrome and power-folding mirrors, and upgraded leather trim. Choose it if you want the most upscale everyday experience.
- Trail Special Edition: This is the style-led choice, and it suits you if you want a more distinctive look without moving into the more specialised off-road packages.
- TRD Offroad: This is the better pick if you want added off-road hardware such as Bilstein shocks, all-terrain tyres, LED headlamps and fog lamps, and available extras like a spray-in bedliner and navigation.
- TRD Pro: This is the most capability-focused version, with a 5 cm lift, Fox off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tyres, beefed-up skid plates, a TRD exhaust, and a JBL audio system.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert remain optional on some versions.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 97 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $45,918 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Tundra's resale value?
The current average of $46,744 CAD sits slightly below last year's $50,282 CAD.
That softer pricing can work in your favour if you are buying now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices continue to ease. The current year-round range suggests there is still room for values to move around, so condition, trim, and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to resell. Trucks with desirable features and strong maintenance histories should hold buyer interest better than stripped or poorly equipped examples.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.55/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra safe?
The 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Every Tundra also comes with eight airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a tow package with a heavy-duty hitch receiver and transmission cooler. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are available, so you should look for those if you want a more complete safety setup.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.04% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.55/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It keeps the proven old-school Tundra formula while adding modern infotainment and standard safety tech.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $45,117 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $46,744 CAD average.
- It is a reliability-first pickup with a reputation for being utterly bulletproof.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $46,944 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $46,744 CAD average.
- It is an all-new redesign with broader updates and more configuration choices.
The bottom line: If you want the proven, updated second-generation Tundra at a softer price, the 2021 is the sensible default. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 is the value play; if you want a full redesign, the 2022 is the better long-term alternative.
