Is the 2021 Toyota Tundra a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tundra earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, powerful performance, reliability, smooth ride, and quality construction. For you, that means the Tundra makes the most sense if you want a straightforward full-size pickup that focuses on core truck duties rather than the latest gadgetry. The market also shows 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners highlighting the truck’s long-term appeal. The expert assessment also frames the Tundra as a proven, durable pickup with a reputation for keeping up over time. Toyota’s standard maintenance coverage adds another ownership-friendly touch.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related compromises can show up in fuel use and technology rather than in basic durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Double Cab includes standard 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power-adjustable heated side mirrors, and heated front seats. Higher trims and packages add features such as leather seating, navigation, a power moonroof, and upgraded audio, so base-trim shoppers should check for the equipment gaps that matter most to them.
• Powertrain: You get Toyota’s 5.7-litre V8 with 391 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive with low range. It delivers strong acceleration and confident towing, but it is also the only engine choice and is not the most efficient setup in the segment.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P is standard and includes forward-collision warning and avoidance, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Optional blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors are worth seeking out on the right trim.
• Infotainment: The standard 8-inch touchscreen includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, multiple USB ports, and Bluetooth connectivity. Navigation is available, and the layout is supported by redundant hard buttons for easier day-to-day use.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the Tundra at 18.0 L/100 km in the city, 14.2 L/100 km on the highway, and 16.3 L/100 km combined. In mixed driving, the observed average was 17.0 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Tundra is offered in 6 trim levels: Double Cab, CrewMax SR5, Trail Special Edition, TRD Offroad, TRD Offroad Premium, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Pro, Platinum, and 1794 Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Double Cab: This is the entry point if you want the Tundra’s core strengths at the lowest starting point, including the standard 8-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, and heated mirrors. It makes sense if you value the basics and do not need the extra comfort or appearance upgrades found higher up.
• CrewMax SR5: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it gives you the more spacious CrewMax body style while staying closer to the lower end of the range. It is a smart pick if you want everyday usability and family-friendly space without chasing premium extras.
• Trail Special Edition: This trim adds black badging, dark grey wheels, a unique grille, and Predator side steps. It suits you if you want a more distinctive look without moving into the more specialised off-road or luxury packages.
• TRD Offroad: This version adds Bilstein shocks, 18-inch off-road alloys with all-terrain tires, a power moonroof, and LED headlamps and fog lamps. It is the right fit if you want a more rugged setup and extra trail-oriented hardware.
• TRD Offroad Premium: This trim builds on the off-road package with a spray-in bedliner, blind spot monitor, leather seats, and on-board navigation. It is the better choice if you want the off-road hardware plus more comfort and convenience.
• TRD Sport Premium: This version swaps in 20-inch alloys, sport-tuned shocks, and a hood scoop. It is the pick for shoppers who want a more street-focused appearance and feel.
• TRD Pro: This is the most aggressive off-road model, with a 5 cm lift, Fox off-road shock absorbers, all-terrain tires, beefed-up skid plates, a TRD exhaust, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system. Choose it if off-road character is your priority.
• Platinum: This trim adds a blacked-out grille, unique badging, chrome heated power-folding memory mirrors, heated and ventilated front seats, embroidered leather seatback upholstery, and a 10-way adjustable driver’s seat with memory. It is the luxury-leaning choice.
• 1794 Edition: This trim largely mirrors the Platinum but adds unique visual and interior touches such as a leather and woodgrain wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. It suits you if you want the upscale content with a more distinctive cabin theme.

The safety package is standard across the range, but optional blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are worth prioritising on trims where they are not included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tundra?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 94 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.97% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $45,925 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $46,981 CAD sits slightly below last year's $51,048 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays loose. The current trend suggests the Tundra is not appreciating in the short term, so resale value will depend heavily on condition, trim, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should still attract attention, especially given the model’s reputation for durability.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Optional blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors can add useful everyday confidence.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 39.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the older Tundra formula relevant with modern infotainment and standard safety tech.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $45,101 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $46,981 CAD average.
• It is especially appealing if long-term reliability matters most.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $47,212 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $46,981 CAD average.
• It brings a fully redesigned truck with broader updates across the lineup.

The bottom line: If you want the proven second-generation Tundra at a softer price, the 2021 is the balanced choice. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2020 can save you money; if you want the newest design, look to the 2022.
