Used 2021 Toyota Tacoma for Sale nearNanaimo, BC

How much does the 2021 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 5.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 231 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Toyota Tacoma earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 6.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 8/10.

Drivers consistently praise its value, reliability, and resale potential, and they also highlight its features, performance, and durability. For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you want a midsize pickup that leans into toughness and versatility rather than polish. It is especially appealing if you value a familiar, proven formula and want a truck that many owners feel good about living with over time.

The market also shows 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which is a healthy sign of availability for shoppers who are ready to compare.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to the Tacoma as reliable, dependable, and a truck owners feel they can count on for the long term. Toyota’s own notes also reinforce that reputation, describing the Tacoma as having an excellent reputation for reliability. The truck’s 3.5-litre V6 and part-time 4WD setup are presented as a solid foundation for durability and off-road use.

Toyota also includes a three-year, 60,000 km basic warranty and a five-year, 100,000 km powertrain warranty, which can help reduce early ownership worry. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a truck with this much capability may have seen harder use than a typical commuter vehicle, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Tacoma’s trim walk matters because the base model is much simpler than the higher trims. The base truck gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while other trims move to an 8-inch unit, and SiriusXM satellite radio is included in every trim but the base model. Higher trims also add more distinctive styling and equipment, including the TRD Pro’s model-specific grille, blacked-out hood and fender flares, and Rigid Industries LED fog lights.
• Powertrain: All Canadian Tacoma models use a 3.5-litre V6 with variable valve timing, and you can choose either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The engine makes 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, and Toyota says the D4S fuel-injection system helps efficiency.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. The Tacoma also earns strong front-crash prevention marks, but headlight performance varies by trim.
• Infotainment: You get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth standard, plus a 7-inch touchscreen on the base truck and an 8-inch screen on other trims. The system is functional rather than flashy, and Toyota does not offer much beyond basic connectivity and navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada rates the automatic 4WD V6 at 13.0 L/100 km in city driving, 10.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 11.8 L/100 km combined. The manual transmission rises to 13.8, 11.4, and 12.7 L/100 km, and TRD Off Road and TRD Pro versions go higher still at 13.8/11.7/12.9 L/100 km.

Which 2021 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off Road, TRD Off Road Premium, TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the Tacoma’s core toughness and standard 4WD without paying for extra off-road hardware or premium features. It is the trim to consider if you mainly want the Tacoma’s reputation and utility at the lowest starting point.
• TRD Sport: This is the better-value choice if you want a step up in equipment and a more polished feel without jumping all the way to the off-road-focused trims. It suits you if you want a balanced Tacoma for everyday use with some added appeal.
• TRD Sport Premium: Choose this if you want the Sport trim’s equipment with a more upscale feature set. It is the right fit if comfort and convenience matter more to you than trail hardware.
• TRD Off Road: This is the trim to buy if you want the Tacoma’s off-road character without going all the way to the top. It adds a locking rear differential, upgraded suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers, Multi-Terrain Select, and Crawl Control.
• TRD Off Road Premium: Pick this if you want the Off Road hardware plus more comfort and convenience. It is the best fit if you want a serious trail-ready truck that still feels better equipped day to day.
• TRD Pro: This is the most off-road focused Tacoma, with Fox internal-bypass shocks, a 1-inch front lift, retuned rear suspension with progressive-rate leaf springs, and a front skid plate. It is the right choice if off-road capability is your priority above all else.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, but headlight ratings vary by trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Tacoma?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 231 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.46% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $42,675 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $43,197 CAD sits slightly below last year's $45,693 CAD.

That softer pricing can help you if you are buying now, but it also suggests future sellers may not see the same pricing strength they did a year ago. Even so, the Tacoma’s reputation for reliability and durability should continue to support demand. If you keep the truck in good condition and maintain it properly, it should remain attractive to used buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota Tacoma safe?

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab earns Good scores in all IIHS crash tests except the passenger-side small overlap front test, where it received an Acceptable score. It also earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal and rollover crash testing, and five-star ratings in side crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That gives you a solid standard safety suite for a truck.

One caveat is that headlight performance varies by trim level, with ratings ranging from Good to Marginal. If safety is a priority, it is worth checking the exact trim and equipment on the truck you are considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 25.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Nightshade and Trail Special Edition updates plus standard dual-zone automatic climate control.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $40,303 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $43,197 CAD average.
• It brings useful design and technology updates while keeping the Tacoma’s rugged identity.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $43,509 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $43,197 CAD average.
• It adds modern tech and safety while staying practical for commuting and weekend use.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and current-market availability, the 2021 is the primary pick. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2020 is the smarter value play, while the 2022 makes sense if you want a slightly newer truck and do not mind paying more.
