CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Toyota Camry
overall

Summary
With 44 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,688 CAD, 29.5% of 2021 Toyota Camry listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Toyota Camry 4.65 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Toyota Camry remains a strong all-rounder in the midsize sedan class, even if it is not the most exciting choice. Toyota has long leaned on the Camry’s reliability and practicality, and this generation adds a more extroverted look along with a driving experience that was meant to feel more engaging. For buyers who want a familiar, easy-to-live-with sedan, that combination is a big part of the Camry’s appeal.
For the 2021 model year, Toyota made subtle styling tweaks, added new infotainment displays, upgraded the Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ driver-aid package, and changed some dashboard trim. The Camry also stands out for the breadth of its lineup, with three powertrains, four trim levels, three available packages on select models, and a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. That flexibility makes it easy to tailor the car to different needs, whether the priority is efficiency, capability, or a more upscale feel.
There are still some trade-offs. The Camry’s strengths are more about competence than character, and some drivers have noted concerns about interior quality, the infotainment system, and noise at higher speeds. Even so, the 2021 Toyota Camry’s smooth ride, good handling, fuel efficiency, and dependable reputation help explain why it remains such a popular default choice.

I absolutely love my 2021 Toyota Camry. From the moment I got it, I honestly fell in love with it. The car looks sporty and modern, but at the same time it’s very comfortable and smooth to drive. It feels reliable and safe, which gives me a lot of confidence, especially as someone still getting used to driving more often. The fuel efficiency is great, and the interior is clean and well-designed. Everything feels solid and easy to use. It’s definitely a great value for the price. If I had to mention something, I wish it had push-button start, but overall I’m extremely happy with my purchase. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone looking for something reliable, stylish, and comfortable.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliable performance and a dependable ownership experience, and the expert assessment also highlights Toyota’s excellent reputation for reliability. The Camry’s practical nature and strong long-term appeal make it a sensible choice if you want a used sedan you can count on.
Toyota also backs the Camry with a three-year, 60,000 km basic warranty and a five-year, 100,000 km powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained properly and not worn down by heavy use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: LE and XLE models use a cleaner grille, while SE and XSE trims add more visual clutter with fake vents. The base LE also comes with 16-inch steel wheels, so you may want to step up if you care about appearance or wheel choice.
- Powertrain: You can choose a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, a 3.5-litre V6, or a hybrid setup. The four-cylinder is the efficiency-focused choice, while the V6 brings much stronger output and the hybrid is the most fuel-efficient option.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, but optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The standard system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Higher trims can add a 9-inch touchscreen, navigation, SiriusXM, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system, while XSE and XLE can also get a 10-inch head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder LE and SE are rated at 7.4 L/100 km combined with FWD and 8.2 L/100 km combined with AWD. The V6 is rated at 9.0 L/100 km combined in XLE form, while the hybrid posts 4.9 L/100 km combined.
Which 2021 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2021 Toyota Camry is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, SE, XSE, XLE.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the value play if you want the Camry’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. It gives you the standard safety suite, the 7-inch touchscreen, and the most efficiency-focused setup, though the steel wheels and simpler appearance make it feel more basic.
- SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a sportier look and sits in the middle of the range without pushing too far up in price. It suits you if you want a more expressive Camry without chasing luxury extras.
- XSE: This is the better choice if you want a more upscale, better-equipped Camry with available premium tech such as the larger touchscreen and head-up display. It also gets standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
- XLE: This is the trim to choose if comfort and a more premium feel matter most. It also includes standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, making it the most complete mainstream choice.
The safety package is strongest on XLE and XSE, where blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert come standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota Camry?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.
- Deal availability: 24.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 116 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.05% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $23,729 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $24,137 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,539 CAD.
That softer pricing can work in your favour if you buy now, but it also means future resale gains may be more gradual than they were a year ago. If you plan to sell later, the Camry’s broad appeal should help support demand, especially because it remains a practical, efficient, and well-regarded sedan.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.65/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Toyota Camry safe?
The 2021 Toyota Camry earned a “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the highest five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in front, side, and rollover crash tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, and traffic-sign recognition. Toyota also adds Rear Seat Reminder as standard on all trim levels.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on XLE and XSE, but optional on LE and SE. The main caveat is that some of the driver-aid features are still trim-dependent, so lower trims do not get the full convenience and visibility package as standard.
Should I buy a 2021 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 24.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.05% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.65/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds updated infotainment displays and an upgraded Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ package.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $24,096 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $24,137 CAD average.
- It adds AWD and the TRD package for buyers wanting more traction or a sportier edge.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $26,555 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $24,137 CAD average.
- It appeals to buyers who want a stylish design and a comfortable, value-focused cabin.
The bottom line: The 2021 is the best all-round pick if you want the strongest mix of safety, efficiency, and everyday usability. If price matters most, the 2020 can be the smarter buy; if you want a newer-feeling design and are willing to pay more, the 2022 is worth a look.
