What should I look for when buying a used 2021 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The TRX stands out with its commanding presence, functional hood scoop, massive grille, fender vents, and crew cab-only 4x4 layout. Base-trim buyers should note that some of the more advanced safety and convenience features are not standard.
• Powertrain: The TRX uses a 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 with an eight-speed automatic transmission, rated at 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It is built for serious performance, but fuel use is high.
• Safety package: The Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. Some of these features cost extra.
• Infotainment: The truck uses a 12-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen with navigation, wireless charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a configurable display layout. It also offers HD Radio, 4G LTE WiFi hotspot capability, and available premium audio.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada specs fuel consumption for the TRX at 22.4 L/100 km in the city, 16.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 19.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, TRX, Limited, and the other trims explicitly referenced in the model-year content.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and a straightforward work-truck setup. It suits you if you care more about utility than luxury or high-performance extras.
• Limited: This trim is the best fit if you want the 12-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 4C, navigation, and the more premium tech and comfort features highlighted in the test-drive data.
• TRX: This is the standout choice if you want the headline performance model. It brings the supercharged 6.2-litre V8, aggressive off-road hardware, and the most dramatic capability in the lineup.

The safety content notes that advanced safety features are available, but some of them are bundled into extra-cost packages rather than included across the board.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,066 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,488 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $32,488 CAD sits slightly below last year's $36,968 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help future buyers but may pressure resale values if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the current average, you may have less immediate depreciation risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher level.

For a future seller, the key question is whether the truck’s strong equipment, performance appeal, and broad buyer interest can offset the softer pricing trend. Well-equipped examples should hold attention better than stripped-down trucks, especially if they are in strong condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is built to withstand tough terrain and comes with more than 100 safety and security features, including forward collision warning and a number of luxury automaker-level ADAS systems.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Advanced Safety Group adds a rear backup camera with dynamic guidelines, a 360-degree view camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. The Technology Group adds a digital rear-view mirror and a brake-activated centre high-mount stop lamp.

Some of the more advanced safety features cost extra, so you should check carefully whether the truck you are considering includes the package you want.

Should I buy a 2021 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 stands out for its new SRT Hellcat-powered TRX trim level and super-sized performance focus.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $31,133 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,488 CAD average.
• It brings back the EcoDiesel engine across the lineup.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,106 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,488 CAD average.
• It blends comfort, utility, technology, and driving character in a polished package.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive performance story, the 2021 is the year to target. If price matters most, the 2020 is the more affordable path, while the 2022 makes sense if you are willing to pay more for a broader polished-truck appeal.
