The expert test drive notes reinforce that dependability with a comfortable on-road manner and no trouble during open-throttle driving. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may show the compromises owners mention, including engine noise and missing convenience features.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 RAM 1500?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The TRX is the standout trim, with a commanding off-road-focused presence, a crew cab-only layout, a 5-foot, 7-inch box, and a cabin that adds premium cloth-and-vinyl materials with available leather, suede, carbon fibre, and graphite metal. Base-trim buyers should note that some luxury touches and convenience features are not standard across the lineup.
• Powertrain: The TRX uses a 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 with an eight-speed automatic transmission, rated at 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. It also brings serious capability, including 594 kg of payload and 3,674 kg of towing.
• Safety package: The Advanced Safety Group adds a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. Some of these features cost extra, so check carefully for package content.
• Infotainment: The TRX gets a 12-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen with navigation, wireless charging, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and over-the-air-style convenience through a highly customisable interface. It also supports a split-screen layout and includes a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada specs fuel consumption for the TRX at 22.4 L/100 km in the city, 16.5 L/100 km on the highway, and 19.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 RAM 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2021 RAM 1500 is offered in 10 trim levels: Tradesman, TRX, and the other trims in the lineup.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup, but you should expect a more basic equipment set than the higher trims.
• TRX: This is the clear choice if you want the most extreme performance and off-road character in the range. It adds the Hellcat-powered V8, the most aggressive hardware, and the most distinctive cabin and tech presentation, but it is not the value pick.

The Advanced Safety Group is the key safety-package upgrade to look for if you want the fullest driver-assistance coverage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 RAM 1500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,085 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.66% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,958 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 RAM 1500's resale value?

The current average of $33,121 CAD sits slightly below last year's $37,922 CAD.

That price drop suggests future sellers may face a softer market than owners saw a year ago. If you buy now, you may benefit from the lower entry point, but resale upside could be more limited if prices continue to ease. The current range still shows healthy demand, though, which helps support values better than a weak inventory environment would.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 RAM 1500 safe?

The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX does not yet have IIHS or NHTSA crash-test ratings listed.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The safety package centres on the Advanced Safety Group, which adds a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and pedestrian detection with emergency braking. A rear backup camera with dynamic guidelines is standard, while the Technology Group adds a digital rear-view mirror and a brake-activated centre high-mount stop lamp.

You should also note that several ADAS features are not standard and cost extra, so equipment can vary a lot by truck. That makes it especially important to verify which safety packages are fitted on any used example you consider.

Should I buy a 2021 RAM 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the TRX, bringing Hellcat-powered performance and extreme off-road capability.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $31,363 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $33,121 CAD average.
• It brings the EcoDiesel back across the lineup for buyers who want diesel power.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $40,694 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $33,121 CAD average.
• It builds on the Ram 1500’s comfort, utility, and technology strengths.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive and performance-focused version, the 2021 is the year to target. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2020 is the better value path, while the 2022 makes sense if you are willing to pay more for a newer example.
