What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base GLE 350 uses an ordinary coil-sprung setup, while higher versions add more advanced suspension hardware and richer equipment. The interior is a standout, but you may need to move up the range to feel truly well appointed.
• Powertrain: The GLE 350 uses a 255 hp engine, while the GLE 450 adds a turbo 3.0-litre inline-6 with 362 hp. Higher-performance AMG versions add more power and more complex hardware, but the base model is the simplest choice.
• Safety package: Standard and optional driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, a driver attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, 360-degree cameras, and semi-automated control that can stop the car if the driver does not respond. Some features vary by model.
• Infotainment: The main display is a 12-inch touchscreen with Interior Assistant, and it works with the touchpad or thumbpad. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system includes a natural voice assistant plus a semi-automated function that can change lanes and slow for curves.
• Fuel efficiency: The six-cylinder GLE 450 4MATIC uses 11.4 L/100 km in city driving, 9.2 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.4 L/100 km combined. The four-cylinder GLE 350 4Matic uses 12.4 L/100 km in city driving, 9.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 10.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered in 8 trim levels: GLE 350 4MATIC SUV, GLE 450 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+, GLE Coupe, Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe, and GLE 450e.

Here's the short version:

• GLE 350 4MATIC SUV: This is the simplest entry point, and it uses the ordinary coil-sprung setup that makes the most sense if you want the least complicated version. It suits you if you want the GLE experience without chasing the most expensive hardware.
• GLE 450 4MATIC: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the turbo 3.0-litre inline-6 and a more upscale feel without jumping into AMG pricing. If you want the sweet spot between performance and everyday usability, start here.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+: This trim is for you if you want stronger performance, more aggressive tuning, and the more advanced AMG hardware. It is the right pick if you care more about driving character than value.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+: This is the top performance choice, with the most serious power and the most expensive hardware in the range. Buy it only if you want the most extreme version of the GLE.
• GLE Coupe: Choose this if you want the more distinctive body style and a more expressive look. It is the style-led pick in the lineup.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe: This is the coupe body style with AMG performance, making it the most compelling choice if you want style and speed together.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe: This is the most powerful coupe version and the most dramatic expression of the GLE nameplate. It suits buyers who want the flagship coupe experience.
• GLE 450e: This trim is for buyers who want the plug-in hybrid direction in the lineup. It is the efficiency-minded choice if that powertrain fits your driving needs.

Safety equipment varies by model, so check carefully that the trim you want includes the driver-assistance features you expect.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop, compare, and negotiate.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 207 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.30% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $52,747 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE's resale value?

The current average of $52,747 CAD sits slightly below last year's $63,019 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can make the GLE easier for you to buy now but less favourable if you are planning to sell soon. If you own one, the softer trend means you may need to price it competitively to attract attention.

Even so, the model's strong owner satisfaction helps support demand. Buyers often respond well to vehicles that are praised for comfort, technology, and styling, especially in the luxury SUV segment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE earns the best Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and an overall five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with four stars for rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard and available safety features include blind-spot monitoring, a driver attention monitor, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, 360-degree cameras, and semi-automated control that can stop the car if the driver does not respond. Pre-Safe Sound is standard, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side is optional on higher trims.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds brand-new GLE Coupe models, giving you a more distinctive body style choice.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $60,330 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $52,747 CAD average.
• It focuses on a low-roofed SUV coupe shape that gives the GLE a more dramatic profile.

The bottom line: If you want the better value proposition, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because prices have softened and inventory is healthy. If style is your priority and you want the coupe look, the next year is worth a look, but you will pay more for it.

How does the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE compare to the 2021 BMW X5?

The GLE leans harder into technology, comfort, and a lavish cabin, while the X5 is positioned as the more style-forward rival.
