Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the model’s comfort, technology, and customisable features. The expert evaluation also notes that the base GLE 350’s ordinary coil-sprung setup makes the most sense for reliability because there’s nothing expensive to fail.

Mercedes also builds in a lot of engineering depth, but that complexity can matter over time for used buyers, so you should pay close attention to maintenance history and how the vehicle has been cared for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GLE line ranges from the more basic GLE 350 to higher-spec versions with much richer cabin materials and more equipment. Base trims are less lavish, so you should check whether the features you want are standard or require a higher trim.
• Powertrain: You’ll find a 2.0-litre four-cylinder in the GLE 350, a turbo 3.0-litre inline-six in the GLE 450, and AMG versions with more aggressive tuning and stronger output. The lineup also uses 4MATIC all-wheel drive across the board in Canada.
• Safety package: The GLE includes a broad suite of driver assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, and semi-automated control. Some features are standard or optional depending on trim, so verify what’s fitted on the vehicle you’re considering.
• Infotainment: You get a 12-inch touchscreen with Interior Assistant, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a natural voice assistant, and over-the-air-style convenience through a highly connected interface. The system is feature-rich, so make sure you’re comfortable with its complexity.
• Fuel efficiency: The AMG GLE 53 Coupe is rated at 12.1 L/100 km combined for the SUV and 11.7 L/100 km for the Coupe version, while the GLE 450 4MATIC uses 10.4 L/100 km combined and the GLE 350 4Matic uses 10.8 L/100 km combined.

Which 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE is offered in 4 trim levels: GLE 350 4MATIC SUV, GLE 450 4MATIC, Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+, and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+.

Here's the short version:

• GLE 350 4MATIC SUV: This is the entry point, and it makes the most sense if you want the GLE’s core luxury, comfort, and technology without stretching into the pricier performance models. It’s also the trim that uses the simpler coil-sprung setup, which is the most straightforward choice from a reliability standpoint.
• GLE 450 4MATIC: This is the best-value pick if you want a stronger engine and a more rounded luxury-SUV experience without jumping to AMG pricing. It adds the turbo 3.0-litre inline-six and the more sophisticated AIRMATIC setup.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+: Choose this if you want the sharper performance character and AMG-specific tuning, including the electric supercharger and more aggressive chassis hardware. It’s the right fit if driving excitement matters more than value.
• Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+: This is the top performance choice, with the most powerful engine and the most serious hardware in the range. It suits you if you want the most extreme version of the GLE and are willing to pay for it.

Safety equipment varies by trim, so confirm the exact driver-assistance features on any used example before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 221 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.86% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $52,770 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE's resale value?

The current average of $54,253 CAD sits slightly below last year's $61,556 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may face more competition when they go to list. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to last year’s average.

The GLE’s broad appeal, strong technology, and high owner satisfaction should help support demand over time, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE safe?

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE earns the best Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives it an overall five-star safety rating with four stars for rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard and available safety tech includes blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, evasive steering assist, front cross-traffic braking, 360-degree cameras, and semi-automated control that can stop the vehicle if the driver does not respond. Pre-Safe Sound is standard, and Pre-Safe Impulse Side is optional on higher trims.

Should I buy a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds brand-new GLE Coupe models, giving you a more distinctive body style.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $60,892 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $54,253 CAD average.
• It leans into the SUV-coupe shape with a more dramatic low-roof design.

The bottom line: If you want the better-value buy, the 2021 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is decent. If you care more about the coupe-style body and are willing to pay more, the 2022 is the more style-led alternative.
