Used 2021 Mazda CX-9 for Sale nearEdmonton, AB

How much does the 2021 Mazda CX-9 cost?

Prices have softened 11.08% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 159 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a 4.54/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth handling, reliability, and luxurious interior. That lines up well with its premium-feeling packaging, strong technology, and family-friendly three-row use case. It is especially appealing if you want a midsize SUV that feels upscale without moving into a luxury badge.

Only 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market still rewards careful comparison shopping.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.54/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Reviewers repeatedly describe it as reliable and praise its trouble-free ownership feel, along with its comfortable driving experience and upscale cabin. The expert assessment also points to a well-built, polished SUV with strong everyday usability and a smooth, composed character.

Mazda’s broader approach here suggests a vehicle designed to be dependable over the long haul, especially if you value a refined family hauler. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is more about living with its space and efficiency compromises than worrying about basic durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GS starts with 18-inch alloy wheels, while the GS-L moves to 20-inch wheels. Higher trims add more standard features, and the Signature brings the most upscale cabin treatment, including quilted leather with contrast piping, patterned aluminium accents, and a restyled grille.
• Powertrain: Every CX-9 uses a Skyactiv 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard in Canada, and front-wheel drive is not offered.
• Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and rain-sensing wipers are standard. The GT adds adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: The CX-9 gets a 10.25-inch static display with Mazda Connect, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and text messaging support. It does not have a touchscreen, and the voice-recognition system is a weak point.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada says the CX-9 is supposed to use 10.5 litres per 100 kilometres combined, while testing returned 11.7 litres per 100 kilometres.

Which 2021 Mazda CX-9 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is offered in 5 trim levels: GS, GS-L, GT, Kuro Edition, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• GS: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-9 experience with standard all-wheel drive and the basic premium feel. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you give up some of the richer equipment found higher up.
• GS-L: This trim adds a step up in wheel size and equipment, making it a more appealing everyday choice if you want a better balance of value and features.
• GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a major safety and convenience upgrade, including adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, parking sensors, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system.
• Kuro Edition: This trim is positioned above the GT and adds more standard features, making it a style-focused step up if you want a more distinctive look.
• Signature: This is the most luxurious choice, with premium Nappa leather, genuine Santos Rosewood inlays, real aluminium accents, and the most upscale cabin presentation.

The GT is the trim where the safety package takes a meaningful step forward, while the Signature is the one to target if you want the most premium interior.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Mazda CX-9?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 159 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.08% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,193 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Mazda CX-9's resale value?

The current average of $28,460 CAD sits slightly below last year's $32,006 CAD.

That price movement suggests the CX-9 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be helpful if you are buying now and later selling into a more stable market. For a future seller, the current softness means resale value may depend more on condition, trim, and equipment than on broad market momentum. Well-kept examples with desirable features should remain easier to move than stripped-down or heavily used ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.54/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Mazda CX-9 safe?

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, though it also records four-star frontal-impact results for the driver and front passenger.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, and rain-sensing wipers. Moving up to the GT adds adaptive front lighting, a driver-attention monitor, front and rear parking sensors, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system.

One limitation to keep in mind is that lane-centring assistance is unavailable, so the CX-9 leans on you to stay engaged rather than trying to drive itself.

Should I buy a 2021 Mazda CX-9 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.54/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021.5 updates add a standard 10.25-inch display and new safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $31,317 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $28,460 CAD average.
• It adds a slightly updated model-year package with five trim levels and a higher starting price.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the better value if you want the CX-9’s premium feel, strong safety, and lower entry price. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021 while the market remains soft.
