CarGurus Analysis: 2021 Jeep Cherokee
Summary
With 83 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,384 CAD, 36.1% of 2021 Jeep Cherokee listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Jeep Cherokee 4.8 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2021 Jeep Cherokee stands out as a compact SUV that blends everyday usability with genuine Jeep character. By this point in the third generation, it had already moved far from the boxy Cherokees of the past, but it still offered the kind of all-weather traction and adventure-minded appeal that helped make the nameplate familiar to buyers. It also remained a value-oriented choice in a market where Jeep’s four-wheel drive capability and styling were among its main strengths.
For 2021, Jeep added more standard convenience features to each trim, including heated front seats and rain-sensing wipers on the base Sport. The Cherokee also carried over a broad mix of equipment from this generation, including a 5-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5.0 infotainment software and voice recognition, plus standard safety items such as front knee airbags and rear side airbags. Buyers looking for more capability could still find the low-range transfer case and rear differential lock on the Trailhawk, while the model’s available technology and safety options helped broaden its appeal.
There are trade-offs, though. The base 2.4-litre four-cylinder was described as harsh and underpowered, and fuel economy was not a strong point. The Cherokee also had a reputation for transmission issues in early third-generation models, so a careful test drive remains sensible. Even so, the 2021 Cherokee could still make sense for shoppers who wanted a practical SUV with distinctive styling, available off-road hardware, and a long list of features for the money.

It’s a nice car, deceptively large inside, and comfortable. I’m average height but on the fluffy side, and it’s a very comfortable fit. Nice smooth ride. A/c feels like a freezer (I bought the car on the hottest day of the year and I was plenty cool on the long drive home.

How much does the 2021 Jeep Cherokee cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,925 CAD |
| Year-Round Low | $22,925 CAD |
| Year-Round High | $27,821 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $27,813 CAD |
| Change vs. Last Year | −17.58% |
Prices have softened 17.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.
There are 371 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Jeep Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers most often praise its great value, smooth ride, and numerous safety features, and many also like the advanced technology and off-road capability. That makes it a sensible fit if you want a practical compact SUV with Jeep character, especially if you value all-weather traction and adventure-minded appeal. With 30.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop carefully.
Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centred on the Cherokee’s smooth ride and overall value. The same reviews suggest it can be a trouble-free choice when maintained well, especially for buyers who want a long-term SUV with useful features and capable all-weather performance. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been cared for properly, since a careful inspection matters more than the badge alone.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Cherokee?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 371 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.58% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,925 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $22,925 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,813 CAD.
That price movement suggests the Cherokee has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If the market stays soft, resale values could remain under pressure unless demand tightens or well-equipped examples become harder to find. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2021 Cherokee makes the most sense if you want a value-oriented compact SUV with Jeep personality, useful features, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on the best-equipped, best-priced examples rather than buying the first one you see.
