What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Honda Civic?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The sedan comes in LX, EX, Sport, and Touring trims. The base LX, EX, and Sport use the 2.0-litre engine, while the Touring adds the turbocharged engine, a larger infotainment screen, and a premium audio setup. If you want the most complete package, the Touring is the one to compare first.
• Powertrain: LX, EX, and Sport trims use an i-VTEC 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The Touring uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder with 174 hp and 162 lb-ft, and it is the stronger choice if you want more punch.
• Safety package: Every Civic gets Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, and lane keeping assist. Automatic high-beam headlights and a multi-angle rearview camera are also standard. LaneWatch is available starting with EX trim, but there is no traditional radar-based blind-spot warning system.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 5-inch LCD screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, text messaging support, and HondaLink connected services. Touring upgrades you to a 7-inch high-definition touchscreen, plus a 10-speaker audio system, HD Radio, SiriusXM, and onboard navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test drive recorded 6.8 L/100 km, compared with an estimate of 7.1 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2021 Honda Civic trim should I buy?

The 2021 Honda Civic is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, Sport, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Civic basics with the standard safety suite, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the 2.0-litre engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without extra convenience features.
• EX: This is the trim to watch if you want a better balance of equipment and value. It adds LaneWatch starting here, which gives you an extra layer of visibility support without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Sport: Choose this if you want a little more visual and wheel presence while staying with the same core mechanical package as the lower trims. It is a good middle-ground choice if style matters to you.
• Touring: This is the best-equipped version and the one to buy if you want the turbocharged engine, the 7-inch touchscreen, the upgraded audio system, and navigation. It is the most complete Civic sedan here, but you should only pay for it if you will use the extra equipment.

Honda Sensing is standard across the lineup, while LaneWatch starts with EX trim.

Should I buy a 2021 Honda Civic or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.23% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is the outgoing 10th-generation Civic with broad body-style choice and a proven formula.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,144 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $21,503 CAD average.
• It adds minor design tweaks plus more standard safety and convenience features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,755 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,503 CAD average.
• It brings a full redesign with modern engineering and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the proven outgoing Civic with strong owner satisfaction and a softer price trend, the 2021 is the sensible pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2020 is the value play; if you want the newest engineering and tech, move up to the 2022.
