Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD stands out as a heavy-duty pickup that leans more upscale than many rivals, with more trim levels and a wider range of upscale options and features than the related Chevy Silverado 2500HD. For you, that means it can work as a serious truck while still feeling well equipped, especially if you want premium touches in a heavy-duty package. 24.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD is described as having numerous problems, including check engine lights tied to diesel particulate filters or emissions sensors, sluggish infotainment responses, rough or delayed shifts, electrical glitches, MultiPro tailgate flaws, and faulty trailer brake controllers. It also comes with a broad mix of technology and capability, which can make it appealing if you want a well-equipped work truck.

For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth weighing carefully, especially if you plan to keep the truck for demanding towing or daily use.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD?

This is a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.

• Deal availability: 24.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 83 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.13% year-over-year.

If you find a listing below $56,076 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $61,003 CAD sits slightly above last year's $59,731 CAD.

That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this truck’s mix of capability and premium positioning. If you buy well and keep the truck in good condition, that pricing strength can help support your exit value later. The limited share of good or great deals also suggests buyers are still competing for the better examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Sierra 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 24.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.13% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $63,460 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $61,003 CAD average.
• It broadens the truck’s appeal with more emphasis on off-road ability, infotainment, trailering technology, and safety.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the better value proposition and are comfortable shopping carefully in a market that still favours sellers. Consider the 2022 if you want to spend more for a newer truck with a broader feature focus, but price-sensitive buyers will likely find the 2021 easier to justify.
