Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport arrived with plenty of anticipation, and the test-drive impression was that it largely lived up to the hype. Ford’s compact two-row crossover SUV came across as lively, capable, and attractive, with a personality that suits both everyday driving and weekend adventures. That combination helps it stand out in a crowded segment, especially for buyers who want something with a more rugged feel than the usual compact crossover.
Owner feedback broadly reinforces that appeal. Many drivers praise its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability, which makes it a favourite for adventurous use. At the same time, some owners point to drawbacks such as interior quality that can feel cheap, a small back seat, and an Auto-Stop feature that can be annoying. Pricing is another concern for some, particularly when compared with cheaper rivals that offer similar features.

Reviewers have noted that the Bronco Sport handles well both on and off-road, with its responsive steering and capable suspension system providing a comfortable and confident ride. The cabin offers a spacious and functional interior with a user-friendly infotainment system, while available features like water-resistant seats and a built-in bottle opener add to its versatility.

This is the car I ended up getting and it was amazing!! I love the cute features of the bronco tied with its functionality. I do a lot of highway driving but also love to go on adventures and do a bit of off-roading this is the perfect vehicle for both.

This is the first vehicle I have ever purchased without having the opportunity to see it in advance, due to the shortage of vehicles overall. I enjoy the performance and handling thus far. Great turning radius. I very much enjoy the medium size of the vehicle as an SUV. It is not compact yet it is not bulky. There is ample room in the back for most needs, especially with the rear seats folded down. The leg room in the back seat is limited, but adequate. I am glad to have purchased the upgraded Outer Banks Model. The added features were worth the cost of the upgrade.

Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport a good car?
Generally — you’re looking at a 4.15/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.33/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners repeatedly praise its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability, which fits the Bronco Sport’s everyday-driver-with-weekend-adventure use case. The overview also points to a compact two-row crossover that feels lively, capable, and attractive, so it suits you best if you want something more rugged than a typical compact SUV. With 28.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.15/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many people feel good about living with over time, especially when it comes to its dependable character and adventure-ready personality. The expert drive notes also describe it as a pleasant surprise off-road and say it has good manners for the majority of its life on pavement, which supports the idea that it can be a sensible long-term companion if you buy the right example.
For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that some of the same traits owners mention as drawbacks — especially interior quality concerns and the small back seat — may matter more as the kilometres add up.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim is the most stripped-back version, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience. The cabin description also shows a clear step-up in materials, from cloth seats to leather-trimmed, heated sport-contour bucket seats, so you should check whether the trim you’re considering has the equipment you want.
- Powertrain: The 1.5-litre EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder engine is fitted to Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks, while the Badlands uses a 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder. The larger engine is described as better matched to the Bronco Sport’s character, while the smaller engine can sound strained when pushed.
- Safety package: Every trim comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
- Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. FordPass Connect with a subscription-based 4G LTE WiFi hotspot is standard, and the available Bang & Olufsen sound system is offered on Outer Banks and above.
- Fuel efficiency: Owners praise its good fuel economy, and the expert commentary also notes that the Bronco Sport is likely to spend most of its life on pavement as a commuter or family hauler.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco Sport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is offered in 4 trim levels: Bronco Sport Base, Bronco Sport Big Bend, Bronco Sport Outer Banks, and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands.
Here's the short version:
- Bronco Sport Base: This is the entry point, but it still gets the standard Ford Co-Pilot360 safety suite, the 8-inch touchscreen, SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and all-wheel drive. It makes sense if you want the Bronco Sport experience at the lowest starting price and can live without the extra convenience features.
- Bronco Sport Big Bend: This trim adds a more rounded ownership experience while staying on the 1.5-litre engine. It’s the best-value choice if you want a step up from the Base without jumping to the more expensive trims.
- Bronco Sport Outer Banks: This is the comfort-focused choice, with more upscale interior trim, available Bang & Olufsen audio, and more convenience equipment. It suits you if you want the Bronco Sport’s style and capability with a more polished daily-driving feel.
- Ford Bronco Sport Badlands: This is the most capability-focused trim, with the 2.0-litre engine, advanced 4x4 system, twin-clutch rear-drive unit, all-terrain tires, seven G.O.A.T. modes, Trail Control, and metal bash plates. Choose it if off-road use matters most.
Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 325 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.74% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,872 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport earns the IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+ rating and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, along with four-star rollover resistance.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Every trim comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, which includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and it adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centring, evasive steering assist, navigation, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and road-sign recognition, though road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport's resale value?
The current average of $23,025 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,654 CAD.
That price drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you’re thinking about selling soon. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you’ll want to buy carefully and avoid overpaying, because resale value will depend heavily on how well the vehicle is equipped and how clean its history is. The good news is that a model with broad owner approval and strong demand can still hold attention better than a less distinctive rival.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.15/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.74% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.15/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model year was the first to bring the Bronco Sport to market, and the expert impression was that it largely lived up to the hype as a lively, capable, and attractive compact crossover.
The bottom line: If you want the original model-year Bronco Sport and you value its rugged personality, the 2021 is a strong place to start. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of equipment, condition, and asking price.
