Why it stands out
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport arrived with plenty of anticipation, and the test-drive impression was that it largely lived up to the hype. Ford’s compact two-row crossover SUV came across as lively, capable, and attractive, with a personality that suits both everyday driving and weekend adventures. That combination helps it stand out in a crowded segment, especially for buyers who want something with a more rugged feel than the usual compact crossover.
Owner feedback broadly reinforces that appeal. Many drivers praise its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability, which makes it a favourite for adventurous use. At the same time, some owners point to drawbacks such as interior quality that can feel cheap, a small back seat, and an Auto-Stop feature that can be annoying. Pricing is another concern for some, particularly when compared with cheaper rivals that offer similar features.

This is the car I ended up getting and it was amazing!! I love the cute features of the bronco tied with its functionality. I do a lot of highway driving but also love to go on adventures and do a bit of off-roading this is the perfect vehicle for both.

This is the first vehicle I have ever purchased without having the opportunity to see it in advance, due to the shortage of vehicles overall. I enjoy the performance and handling thus far. Great turning radius. I very much enjoy the medium size of the vehicle as an SUV. It is not compact yet it is not bulky. There is ample room in the back for most needs, especially with the rear seats folded down. The leg room in the back seat is limited, but adequate. I am glad to have purchased the upgraded Outer Banks Model. The added features were worth the cost of the upgrade.

Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport a good car?
Generally — the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport earns 4.15/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Owners repeatedly praise its style, good fuel economy, and off-road capability, and the overview frames it as a compact two-row crossover that works well for everyday driving and weekend adventures. That mix makes it appealing if you want something more rugged and expressive than a typical compact SUV.
There are 24.4% of listings priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.15/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable enough to recommend for adventurous use, with praise centred on its good fuel economy and off-road capability. The expert drive notes also describe it as a pleasant surprise off-road and say it has good manners for the majority of its life on pavement, which supports the idea that it can be a sensible long-term companion if you choose the right example.
Ford’s available Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centring, evasive steering assist, navigation, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link, and road-sign recognition on most trims, which can help reduce day-to-day stress. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is that some examples may have been used hard for trail duty, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim is the most stripped-back version, while Big Bend, Outer Banks, and Badlands add progressively more comfort, convenience, and capability. The cabin description also points to a step up from cloth seats to leather-trimmed, heated sport-contour bucket seats, plus more refined cargo-area materials as you move up the range.
- Powertrain: Base, Big Bend, and Outer Banks use a 1.5-litre EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, while Badlands gets a 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder with 245 hp and 275 lb-ft. All versions use an eight-speed automatic and AWD, and the 2.0-litre setup is described as the better match for the Bronco Sport’s character.
- Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard on every trim and includes pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and dynamic brake support, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, auto high-beam headlamps, and a reversing camera. Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base, and road-sign recognition is not available on Big Bend.
- Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, available SiriusXM, and standard FordPass Connect with a subscription-based 4G LTE WiFi hotspot. Intelligent access with push-button start is included on all trims except Base, and a 6.5-inch digital instrument panel replaces the analogue cluster on Base and Big Bend.
- Fuel efficiency: The owner feedback highlights good fuel economy, and the expert summary also supports that impression.
Which 2021 Ford Bronco Sport trim should I buy?
The 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is offered in 4 trim levels: Bronco Sport Base, Bronco Sport Big Bend, Bronco Sport Outer Banks, and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands.
Here's the short version:
- Bronco Sport Base: This is the entry point, but it is also the most feature-light version. It gets the standard safety suite and core infotainment, yet it misses some convenience upgrades such as push-button start and the more advanced driver-assist package.
- Bronco Sport Big Bend: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday equipment without jumping too far in price. It also keeps the 1.5-litre engine while bringing more comfort and convenience than Base.
- Bronco Sport Outer Banks: Choose this if you want a more polished cabin and a stronger comfort focus. It adds more upscale interior touches and sits in the sweet spot for buyers who want style and daily usability.
- Ford Bronco Sport Badlands: This is the trim to choose if you want the most capability. It gets the 2.0-litre engine, advanced 4x4 hardware, all-terrain tyres, seven G.O.A.T. modes, Trail Control, and metal bash plates.
Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard across the range, while Co-Pilot360 Assist+ is available on all trims except Base.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford Bronco Sport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 328 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.65% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $22,872 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport's resale value?
The current average of $22,974 CAD sits slightly below last year's $27,563 CAD.
That softer pricing can be good news if you are buying now, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive market if prices stay under pressure. The current trend suggests the Bronco Sport has moved into a more buyer-friendly phase, which can limit upside for resale in the near term. Still, its distinctive styling and adventure-focused appeal should help it hold attention better than many ordinary compact SUVs.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.15/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe?

Should I buy a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.15/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- After a long buildup, Ford finally made the 2021 Bronco Sport available for the media to test drive, and the result was a lively, capable, and attractive compact crossover with strong on- and off-pavement appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the original model-year Bronco Sport experience, the 2021 is a compelling choice because it combines distinctive styling, strong capability, and a meaningful price drop from last year. If you are mainly shopping for value, the current pricing makes this a sensible time to buy, especially if you can find a well-kept example near the low end of the range.
