Is the 2021 Dodge Durango a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Dodge Durango earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, comfortable seating, and spacious interior, and they also like the updated technology and powerful engine options. That lines up well with its role as a three-row SUV for families who want everyday practicality without giving up a more muscular character. It also stands out for buyers who want towing capability and stronger performance in the same package.

With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a decent amount of market opportunity if you shop carefully.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV with a comfortable ride, spacious cabin, and powertrain choices that owners appreciate over time. The expert notes also reinforce that it’s built for buyers who want a family hauler they can count on for daily use and towing duties. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Durango’s age and feature content can make condition and maintenance history especially important.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Durango’s lower trims come with cloth upholstery and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims move to a 10.1-inch screen, more premium materials, and a more sophisticated cabin. You should also check whether the trim you’re considering includes the features you want, since some equipment is reserved for higher grades.
• Powertrain: You can find a 3.6-litre V6, 5.7-litre HEMI V8, 392 HEMI V8, or supercharged 6.2-litre HEMI V8, all paired with an eight-speed automatic. The V6 is the efficiency-minded choice, while the V8s are for buyers who want stronger performance and towing ability.
• Safety package: The Durango comes standard with only a back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim or package, you may find adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: Lower trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get a 10.1-inch unit with Uconnect 5. The larger system adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected services, two Bluetooth connections, TomTom navigation, and SiriusXM with 360L.
• Fuel efficiency: Some owners and shoppers have raised concerns about fuel efficiency, especially given the Durango’s performance focus.

Which 2021 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?

The 2021 Dodge Durango is offered in 4 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, and R/T.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Durango’s core three-row layout and V6 power without the extra equipment found higher up. It makes sense if you want the most affordable way into the lineup and can live without the added convenience and tech features.
• GT: The GT is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying below the V8 trims. It also unlocks the rear-seat family entertainment system, making it a smart pick if you want a better-equipped family SUV.
• Citadel: The Citadel is the more upscale choice, with the option to upgrade to the 5.7-litre V8. It suits you if you want a more premium-feeling Durango and are willing to pay for it.
• R/T: The R/T is the performance-oriented pick, with the 5.7-litre V8 standard and SRT Performance Pages included. Choose it if you want stronger acceleration and a more enthusiast-focused setup.

Depending on trim level or package, you can add active safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Dodge Durango?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop around but not so much that bargains are guaranteed.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 269 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.25% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $32,587 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Dodge Durango's resale value?

The current average of $32,660 CAD sits slightly below last year's $38,538 CAD.

That decline suggests the Durango has become more accessible on the used market, which can help buyers today but may temper future resale gains if prices continue to ease. For a seller, it means you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially against other three-row SUVs with broader standard safety content. The model’s strong performance image and family-friendly packaging still give it a clear identity, which helps support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Dodge Durango safe?

The 2021 Dodge Durango earns a Marginal rating from IIHS for a small overlap frontal impact on the driver’s side, and a five-star side crash-test rating and a four-star front crash and rollover rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Durango comes standard with a federally mandated back-up camera, airbags, and electronic stability control. Depending on trim level or package, you can add adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic high beams, rear-cross traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and forward-collision warning.

The main caveat is that many rivals offer more active safety equipment as standard, and the IIHS small-overlap result is a notable weakness.

Should I buy a 2021 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds the SRT Hellcat variant and the available Tow N Go Package.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,617 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $32,660 CAD average.
• It offers muscle-car styling with strong performance options.

The bottom line: Choose the 2021 if you want the newer infotainment update and the added performance and towing-focused variants. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2020 can still make sense as a lower-cost way into the Durango’s distinctive mix of space and muscle.
