Is the 2021 Acura TLX a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Acura TLX earns 4/5 from owners and 7.3/10 from our experts. It is positioned as Acura’s sport sedan, with a new platform, new exterior and interior design, and new powertrain choices that give it a more distinct identity than before. Is the 2021 Acura TLX reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The TLX is presented as a thoughtfully engineered premium sedan with a new-generation platform and a strong emphasis on quality and craftsmanship. Its performance setup is described as solid and substantial, with balanced road manners and a drivetrain tuned for engaging driving.

Acura also backs the car with a four-year/80,000-kilometre new vehicle limited warranty and a five-year/100,000 km major components warranty. For used buyers, that combination points to a premium sedan that should be manageable to own, though you should still budget carefully for luxury-brand maintenance and repairs as the vehicle ages.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Acura TLX?

Key things to evaluate:

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the TLX’s core design, standard SH-AWD, and full safety suite without paying for extras.
• Tech: This is the best-value trim if you want navigation and a more complete convenience package without jumping to the pricier appearance or luxury-focused grades.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want a more expressive look and the upgraded ELS Studio 3D audio system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Acura TLX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 23.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 60 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.95% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,336 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $31,647 CAD sits slightly below last year's $33,294 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests the TLX is currently more accessible to used buyers than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that can mean less immediate upside if you buy at today’s average and resell soon after. On the other hand, the model’s premium positioning and distinct design help support interest from shoppers who want a sport sedan with a stronger identity.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Acura TLX safe?

The 2021 Acura TLX received a “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives it a five-star overall rating, with only the front passenger side crash test receiving four stars.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, blind-spot monitoring on all models but base, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian sensing, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, traffic-sign recognition, and traffic jam assist. Available safety features include rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and the head-up display.

Should I buy a 2021 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 23.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings a new platform, new styling, and new powertrain choices that sharpen Acura’s sport-sedan identity.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $25,234 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $31,647 CAD average.
• It leans more heavily into Acura’s enthusiast image and engaging drive.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,725 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $31,647 CAD average.
• It continues the design renaissance with strong road presence and genuine performance capability.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of this generation’s TLX, the 2021 is the right starting point. If price matters most, the 2020 is the easier entry, while the 2022 makes sense if you’re willing to pay more for the newer-year premium.

How does the 2021 Acura TLX compare to the 2021 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2021 Acura TLX 7.3/10 and the 2021 Honda Accord 9.2/10. The TLX is the more premium and performance-focused choice, while the Accord delivers stronger overall value and a lower average used price. You also get more listings to choose from in the Accord, which can make shopping easier. If you want a luxury badge and a sportier feel, the TLX has the edge; if you want the better all-around used-car buy, the Accord is the stronger pick.
