Is the 2021 Acura TLX a good car?

Generally — the 2021 Acura TLX earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

As a midsize sport sedan, it stands out for its new platform, new exterior, new interior, and new powertrain choices. The TLX is aimed at you if you want a premium-feeling sedan with a more engaging personality than a typical midsize luxury car, and the expert test drive summary describes it as having a sporty character and a strong road presence.

The current market also shows 33.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Acura TLX reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The TLX’s expert coverage points to a solid, substantial feel over a variety of road surfaces, along with strong build quality and a well-developed chassis. Its new platform and updated powertrain choices also suggest a more modern foundation than the previous generation.

Acura’s four-year/80,000-kilometre new vehicle limited warranty and five-year/100,000 km major components warranty help reduce early ownership risk. For used buyers, the main long-term concern is making sure the car has been maintained properly, especially if you want to preserve the performance and technology advantages that define this model year.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Acura TLX?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gives you the core TLX experience, while higher trims add more luxury and convenience. The base model does not include blind-spot monitoring, so that is an important feature gap to check if you are comparing trims.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. SH-AWD with torque vectoring is standard in Canada, and the car is tuned for a sporty, balanced feel.
• Safety package: Acura’s driver-assist suite includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, blind-spot monitoring on all models but base, and lane-keeping assist. It also adds pedestrian sensing, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, traffic-sign recognition, and traffic jam assist.
• Infotainment: The 10.2-inch landscape-oriented screen is a key cabin feature. Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, Siri Eyes Free, SMS Text Messaging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are included, while navigation with voice recognition is standard above the base trim level.
• Fuel efficiency: Natural Resources Canada estimates fuel use at 11.2 L/100 km in city driving, 8.0 L/100 km on the highway, and 9.8 L/100 km combined for all models. The A-Spec is slightly less efficient at 11.3 L/100 km city and 8.1 L/100 km highway.

Which 2021 Acura TLX trim should I buy?

The 2021 Acura TLX is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Tech, A-Spec, Platinum Elite.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the TLX’s core design, standard SH-AWD, and the main safety and driver-assist hardware at the lowest price.
• Tech: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger mix of convenience and technology, including navigation above the base level.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want a more expressive, sportier-feeling TLX with the premium audio upgrade and a more distinctive appearance.
• Platinum Elite: This is the most fully equipped choice, adding adaptive dampers, a head-up display, and the richest feature set for buyers who want the most comfort and technology.

Blind-spot monitoring is not included on the base trim, so that is the key safety-package gap to keep in mind when comparing versions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Acura TLX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 57 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $29,325 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Acura TLX's resale value?

The current average of $31,133 CAD sits slightly below last year's $34,222 CAD.

That softer pricing can be a good entry point for you as a buyer, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about where the market has settled. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. The TLX’s premium badge, sporty character, and broad feature set should help support demand, even if pricing remains below last year’s level.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Acura TLX safe?

The 2021 Acura TLX received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives it five-star ratings overall, with a four-star rating for the front passenger side crash test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, blind-spot monitoring on all models but base, lane-keeping assist, pedestrian sensing, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, traffic-sign recognition, traffic jam assist, a multi-angle rear-view camera system with dynamic guidelines, and a full complement of airbags. Available features include rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view camera system, and the head-up display.

The main caveat is that blind-spot monitoring is not included on the base trim, so you should verify the equipment list carefully if you are shopping entry-level examples.

Should I buy a 2021 Acura TLX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 brings a new platform, new styling, and new powertrain choices that give it a more distinct identity.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $24,716 CAD, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $31,133 CAD average.
• It leans harder into Acura’s enthusiast roots and offers strong value.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,260 CAD, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $31,133 CAD average.
• It keeps the same design-forward, performance-focused formula while adding the Type S halo effect.

The bottom line: If you want the most distinctive version of the TLX’s redesign, the 2021 is the sweet spot. If your priority is lower purchase price, the 2020 is the value play; if you want to spend more for the newer-generation appeal and can stretch your budget, the 2022 is the premium alternative.
