How much does the 2020 Toyota RAV4 cost?

Prices have softened 6.79% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 681 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Toyota RAV4 earns a 4.57/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10. Owners consistently praise its performance, reliability, comfort, safety features, fuel efficiency, and stylish design. It also fits a wide range of needs, from basic, useful transportation to a more adventurous SUV with broader configuration choice. With 29.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.57/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and the review summary also highlights the RAV4’s dependable, trouble-free appeal for everyday use. The expert assessment reinforces that it is comfortable, practical, roomy, safe, and good to drive, which supports confidence in long-term ownership. Toyota also includes a free 1-year subscription to Safety Connect services, which adds some ownership reassurance early on.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some examples may have been used hard or may show the effects of higher mileage, so service history matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the LE and stretches to the Limited, with XLE and Trail in between. The Trail is the one to focus on if you want the rugged look and off-road-oriented hardware, while the XLE is called out as the best blend of equipment and value. Base trims are lighter on equipment than higher grades, so check carefully for the features you want.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The eight-speed automatic generally works well, though it can occasionally seem unsure about gear selection. The TRD Off-Road package adds torque-vectoring AWD, driveline disconnect technology, multiple terrain modes, downhill assist control, and 21.8 centimetres of ground clearance.
• Safety package: Every 2020 RAV4 includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high beams. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard. Headlight performance without the full LED, curve adaptive headlights is a weak point to watch for.
• Infotainment: Depending on trim, you get a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are built in, along with Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and connected services. Wireless smartphone charging is available, and the Limited can be equipped with a digital rear-view mirror and a 360-degree surround-view camera.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 10.0 L/100 km, versus an official estimate of 8.6 L/100 km in combined driving.

Which 2020 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Trail, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the RAV4’s core practicality and safety without paying for extras you may not use.
• XLE: This is the best-value choice. The expert review specifically calls it the best blend of equipment and value, especially with all-wheel drive.
• Trail: Choose this if you want the more rugged personality and the available TRD Off-Road package, plus the added capability that comes with it.
• Limited: Pick this if you want the most upscale equipment and the available tech upgrades, including the digital rear-view mirror and surround-view camera.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, but the headlight performance caveat applies unless the model has the full LED, curve adaptive headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Toyota RAV4?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 681 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.79% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $28,006 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Toyota RAV4's resale value?

The current average of $28,006 CAD sits slightly below last year's $30,046 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can work in your favour if you are buying now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim. Well-equipped examples with the right features should hold interest better than stripped-down versions, especially if they have strong service records.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.57/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Toyota RAV4 safe?

The 2020 RAV4 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the IIHS, but only with the full LED, curve adaptive headlights. Headlight performance without those headlights is rated Marginal at best.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2020 RAV4 includes Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which brings automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, radar adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, and automatic high beams. Blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard. Toyota also includes a free 1-year subscription to Safety Connect services, with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency assistance button, and enhanced roadside assistance.

The main safety caveat is the headlight performance issue on models without the full LED, curve adaptive headlights, so that is worth checking closely on any used example.

Should I buy a 2020 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.57/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds the TRD Off-Road package and broad trim variety to an already versatile SUV.

Consider the 2019 if:

• At $26,667 CAD, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $28,006 CAD average.
• It brings bold new styling, new tech, and a bit of off-road cred.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,050 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,006 CAD average.
• It adds the RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid and expands the lineup’s powertrain choices.

The bottom line: The 2020 is the sweet spot if you want the current-generation RAV4’s versatility, safety, and trim variety without paying the 2021 premium. If you are price-sensitive, the 2019 can save you money, while the 2021 makes sense if you want the newer model-year choice set and are willing to spend more.
