Is the 2020 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Forester earns a 4.83/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its safety features, smooth driving experience, and interior design, and many say it offers strong value compared with rivals like the Nissan Rogue and CR-V. That lines up well with its practical compact-SUV mission: you get a vehicle aimed at everyday usability, all-weather traction, and commuting confidence. With 33.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2020 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with particular confidence in the Forester’s everyday usability and long-term appeal. That kind of feedback matters if you want a used SUV you can count on for commuting, family duty, and poor-weather driving. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well, especially if you want to avoid surprises as it ages.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 192 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.00% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $22,700 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $22,728 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,739 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can be good news if you're buying now but less favourable if you're planning to sell soon. If you own one for a few years, the current pricing trend implies you should expect resale values to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Strong demand for practical, safety-focused SUVs can help support future value, especially when the vehicle has broad appeal to everyday buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 33.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: The 2020 Forester makes the most sense if you want a practical, safety-first compact SUV with strong owner approval and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of price, condition, and deal quality.
