Is the 2020 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Subaru Ascent earns a 4.88/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its roominess, safety features, and family-friendly design, and many also like the comfortable interior and balanced driving experience. That makes sense if you want a practical three-row SUV with standard all-wheel drive and seating flexibility for seven or eight passengers. With 41.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2020 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centred on the Ascent’s comfort, safety, and overall day-to-day usability. That kind of response suggests you can count on it as a family vehicle if you keep up with maintenance and choose a well-kept used example.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about owner sentiment and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been cared for properly over time.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Subaru Ascent?

This looks like a favourable buyer’s market for the 2020 Subaru Ascent, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings and waiting for the right price.

• Deal availability: 41.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 113 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.88% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,815 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $23,815 CAD sits slightly below last year's $28,653 CAD.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more attractive entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale expectations should be set with the current softer pricing in mind rather than last year’s higher benchmark. If demand stays steady, the Ascent’s family-friendly appeal should help support values, but the current trend shows there is still room for depreciation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 41.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: If you want a three-row Subaru with standard all-wheel drive, strong family appeal, and a market that currently favours buyers, the 2020 is the one to focus on. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2020 stands out as the better pick when you want a balance of value, owner satisfaction, and available inventory.
