CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Nissan Sentra
Summary
With 194 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,784 CAD, 32.0% of 2020 Nissan Sentra listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Nissan Sentra 4.75 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Nissan Sentra stands out as the start of the model’s eighth generation, bringing a fresh exterior design, a new engine, and a solid package of driver safety aids known as Safety Shield 360. It was offered in S, SV, SR, and SR Premium trim levels, and the standard safety equipment included forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. That combination gives the 2020 Sentra a strong value proposition for buyers who want a compact sedan that feels well equipped without moving far up the trim ladder.
Under the bonnet, the 2020 Nissan Sentra used a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. It was also reasonably efficient, with fuel consumption rated at 8.0 L/100 km in the city, 6.0 on the highway, and 7.1 combined. Owners also praised its attractive design, smooth ride, and fuel economy, while noting that acceleration and engine responsiveness could be better. That balance of comfort, efficiency, and safety helps explain why the 2020 Sentra appeals to shoppers looking for an easygoing daily driver rather than a performance-focused compact car.

Reviewed a 2020 Nissan SV FWD on Oct 25, 2023
Ive been very pleased with my 2015 Altima, so I looked to Nissan again when I decided to move up to a later model with the latest safety features. I found that the Sentra, starting with the 2020 model, has close to the same safety features of the Altima at a better price point. I bought a low mileage 2020 Sentra SV with the Premium Package to get the leather seats and other comforts, and Ive been very pleased with the car so far. The 2.0 liter engine isnt quite as responsive as the Altimas 2.5, but certainly adequate with the CVT transmission and very economical.

| Year-Round High | $17,852 CAD |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $17,757 CAD |

Is the 2020 Nissan Sentra a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Nissan Sentra earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its beautiful design, smooth ride, and excellent fuel economy, and many also like the safety features and gadgets you get for the price. That makes it a sensible fit if you want an easygoing compact sedan for daily driving rather than a performance-first car. With 28.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Nissan Sentra reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also leans toward dependable day-to-day use, with many drivers describing the car as trouble-free and appreciating how well it fits long-term ownership needs. A few minor issues were mentioned, but they appear limited compared with the overall positive response. For used buyers, that suggests the bigger ownership risk is finding a neglected example rather than worrying about a broad reliability pattern.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Nissan Sentra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 194 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.64% compared with last year.
If you find a listing below $14,736 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Nissan Sentra's resale value?
The current average of $14,802 CAD sits slightly below last year's $17,757 CAD.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favourable point, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying well now so you have more room to protect your value. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to list.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Nissan Sentra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 16.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,253 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $14,802 CAD average.
- It adds a more polished design and a smarter overall feel.
The bottom line: Choose the 2020 if you want the better value and a well-liked compact sedan with strong owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget and want a more refined-feeling alternative, the 2021 is the better upgrade path.
