Is the 2020 Nissan Altima a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Nissan Altima earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, fuel efficiency, and the impressive array of features, especially in the base model. What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Nissan Altima?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S trim gets forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and a driver attention monitor, while higher trims add more of the safety and convenience equipment you may want.
• Powertrain: Every Canadian 2020 Altima uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive, and the review notes that the ride and handling are strong.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centring assistance, while higher versions also add pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, automatic high-beam assistance, road-sign recognition, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch display with Bluetooth, a text-messaging assistant, Siri Eyes Free, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto; available upgrades include SiriusXM, navigation, a 9-speaker Bose audio system, and NissanConnect Services.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review does not provide a fuel-consumption figure.

Which 2020 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2020 Nissan Altima is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, but it leaves out some of the safety equipment found higher up the range, so you should only choose it if you are comfortable with the essentials.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim, making it the most balanced choice for everyday use.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale version, with 19-inch wheels and the most premium presentation, so it suits you if you want the most feature-rich Altima.

The safety package is not fully standard across the range, so compare trims carefully if advanced driver assistance matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Nissan Altima?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can afford to shop around and wait for the right listing.

• Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 52 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.79% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $18,968 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $19,315 CAD sits slightly below last year's $21,897 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests the Altima has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market. If you buy now, you are entering at a lower price point than owners saw a year ago, which can help cushion depreciation. The model’s broad appeal and standard all-wheel drive should help support demand, even if it is not a resale leader.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2020 Nissan Altima earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Altima’s safety suite includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and a driver attention monitor on the base S trim, while higher trims add pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, rear automatic braking, automatic high-beam assistance, road-sign recognition, and a surround-view camera. ProPilot Assist adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and lane-centring assistance.

One caveat is that the automatic high-beam LED headlights needed for the IIHS result are standard on every version except the base trim level.

Should I buy a 2020 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out in Canada because standard all-wheel drive makes it unusually appealing among mainstream sedans.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,062 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $19,315 CAD average.
• It is a popular midsize sedan now in the third year of its sixth generation.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because it combines lower pricing with strong owner satisfaction and standard all-wheel drive. If you are willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the cleaner alternative.
