CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE
Summary
With 33 currently listed for sale and an average price of $38,740 CAD, 21.2% of 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favourably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 4.57 / 5 stars.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE stands out as a luxury SUV that blends a premium feel with a strong emphasis on space, comfort, and technology. It arrived for the 2020 model year as the second-generation GLE, and it is slightly larger than before, with a 7.8-centimetre increase in wheelbase that gives extra rear legroom. Five seats are standard, and optional third-row seats can be specified on a new build, which makes it especially appealing to buyers who want a family-friendly SUV without giving up a high-end cabin.
Its biggest distinction is the way Mercedes-Benz has packed the GLE with advanced features and a wide range of powertrains. The interior brings a sweeping dashboard design, huge display screens, and, on some models, ambient lighting. Most models have had some form of hybrid technology from the start, while the range also includes turbocharged engines and AMG versions with serious performance. The GLE 450 uses a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo engine with mild-hybrid technology and 362 horsepower, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 delivers 429 horsepower, and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S produces 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.9 seconds. A 2023 update added mild hybrid technology to the GLE 350 models, a small increase in power for the GLE 450, new exterior details, a new MBUX infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. For 2024, a GLE 450e plug-in hybrid joined the range with a pure-electric range of 80 kilometres.
For shoppers, the 2020 GLE’s appeal lies in how thoroughly equipped it is even in entry-level form. Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, a power tailgate, heated and electrically adjustable front seats, an electric steering column adjustment, dual-zone climate control, a power sunroof, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and LED headlights. At the same time, it is not the cheapest choice, and some versions are expensive, while fuel consumption can be heavy on certain models. Still, for buyers who want a quiet, comfortable, spacious SUV with a high-quality interior and a broad spread of powertrain choices, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE makes a strong case.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE's resale value?
The current average of $42,486 CAD sits slightly below last year's $48,400 CAD.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum alone. If you keep the vehicle well maintained and choose a desirable configuration, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.22% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $52,747 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $42,486 CAD average.
- It adds Coupe models for a more distinctive body style.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the better value if you want a well-liked luxury SUV at a lower average price. If you care more about a newer-feeling lineup and a more expressive design, the 2021 is the better secondary path, but you will pay more for it.
