How much does the 2022 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 4.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 86 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 5.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

The 2022 MINI Cooper is a premium small car with a distinctly personal feel, and it leans heavily into style, technology, and customisation rather than everyday practicality. It is especially appealing if you want a compact car that feels more individual than mainstream, with a wide range of colours, materials, wheels, packages, and options.

The market shows 23.3% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 MINI Cooper is built on a BMW platform and uses BMW engines and BMW technology, which supports its premium positioning. Its engineering and equipment suggest a car designed to feel more upscale than its size might imply, and the refreshed model adds standard digital instrumentation and a new infotainment system.

The performance content also points to a car that can be engaging when properly equipped, though the driving experience is more about character than outright precision. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the car’s premium features and options can make upkeep and repair costs feel less forgiving than the purchase price alone suggests.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 MINI Cooper?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The refreshed model gets restyled bumpers, a new grille, standard LED headlights, and a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen display, but the car’s appeal depends heavily on how it is equipped. You should pay close attention to whether the car has the features you want, because the base setup is intentionally simpler than higher-spec versions.
• Powertrain: The Cooper uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine with 134 horsepower, while the Cooper S steps up to a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder with 189 hp. Both engines can be paired with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and the JCW version uses a tuned 2.0-litre engine with 235 hp and an eight-speed automatic.
• Safety package: MINI’s Driving Assistant technology is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is available with an automatic transmission, but blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is not available.
• Infotainment: The MINI Connected system uses a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and BMW-based connected services. Android Auto isn’t available, while navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The Cooper S test car was rated at 8.1 L/100 km in combined driving, and the test loop returned 8.7 L/100 km.

Which 2022 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2022 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works.

Here's the short version:

• Cooper: This is the entry point if you want the MINI experience with the standard 1.5-litre turbo engine and the core style-and-tech package. It suits you best if you care more about personality and customisation than outright pace.
• Cooper S: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the stronger 2.0-litre turbo engine and a more energetic driving character without jumping all the way to JCW territory.
• John Cooper Works: Choose this if you want the most powerful and most performance-focused version, with the tuned 2.0-litre engine and the quickest acceleration in the range.

MINI’s Driving Assistant technology is standard, and adaptive cruise control is available with automatic transmission models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 MINI Cooper?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 23.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 86 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.89% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $23,581 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $25,088 CAD sits slightly below last year's $26,379 CAD.

That softer pricing trend suggests the market has become a bit more favourable for buyers, which can make it harder for future sellers to command top dollar right away. If you own one and keep it in strong condition with desirable equipment, you may still benefit from the model’s premium image and distinctive appeal. The current price movement also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 MINI Cooper safe?

The 2022 MINI Cooper does not have published crash-test ratings from either NHTSA or IIHS.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

MINI’s standard Driving Assistant suite includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Adaptive cruise control is available on automatic-transmission cars and can bring the car to a full stop for 2022. A blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert is not available, which is worth noting if you often drive with the roof up or in busy traffic.

Should I buy a 2022 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 23.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert highlight: It combines BMW-based engineering with extensive personalisation options.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,279 CAD, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $25,088 CAD average.
• It adds a limited-run Resolute Edition and new paint colours.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the better value and a wider pool of used listings to compare. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model with a few extra visual updates, the 2023 is the alternative to consider.

How does the 2022 MINI Cooper compare to the 2022 BMW 2 Series?
