How much does the 2020 MINI Cooper cost?

Prices have softened 12.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 89 listings available, which suggests you have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper a good car?

The 2020 MINI Cooper earns an expert rating of 7.3/10.

The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

It stands out for its historic, instantly recognisable design and its playful driving character, while also moving toward a more modern direction. You also get multiple powertrain options and multiple body styles, which broadens its appeal if you want something with personality rather than a conventional small car.

The trade-offs are clear: advanced safety features are not standard, the back seat is cramped, and cargo space is limited.

With 32.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, there is still some room to find a strong-value example.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper reliable?

The 2020 MINI Cooper is presented as a car that prioritises style and driving enjoyment, but it also asks you to accept some compromises in everyday practicality. Its short wheelbase, low curb weight, and torquey engines support the idea that it is built to feel lively and engaging.

The performance notes point to a planted, nimble character, with direct steering, limited body roll, and a low centre of gravity helping it feel composed in corners. On the cost side, the base gas model is described as returning 8.4 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 6.5 on the highway, and 7.5 combined, which gives you a useful benchmark for ownership planning.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a small, style-first car with limited space and modest efficiency can be less forgiving if you need it as your only vehicle.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as premium and distinctive, but the base setup leaves out some equipment that appears on higher trims, including front and rear parking sensors on the Premier+ package.
• Powertrain: The gas model uses a 1.5-litre turbo three-cylinder with 134 hp, while the Cooper S uses a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with 189 hp. The electric SE adds a 32.6-kWh battery and an electric motor, so you should choose based on whether you want the gas or electric driving experience.
• Safety package: Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. The Premier+ package adds front and rear parking sensors, and the rear-view camera system is included.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen is 6.5 inches, with Bluetooth, navigation, and Apple CarPlay, but not Android Auto. The SE Premier+ gets an 8.8-inch screen, plus a wireless charging pad and a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base Cooper hardtop returns 8.4 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, 6.5 on the highway, and 7.5 combined. The Cooper S is rated at 8.9/6.6/7.9, while the SE is rated at 2.2 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres combined.

Which 2020 MINI Cooper trim should I buy?

The 2020 MINI Cooper is offered in 3 trim levels: Classic, Premier, and Premier+.

Here's the short version:

• Classic: This is the trim to consider if you want the most accessible entry point into the MINI experience and are mainly focused on the car’s style and character.
• Premier: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete feature set without jumping all the way to the top package.
• Premier+: Choose this if you want the most equipment, including the larger 8.8-inch screen, wireless charging pad, head-up display, and parking sensors.

The safety content also notes that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should pay close attention to equipment level when comparing trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 MINI Cooper?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 89 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.81% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $19,870 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 MINI Cooper's resale value?

The current average of $19,972 CAD sits slightly below last year's $22,907 CAD.

That softer pricing suggests the used market has become more favourable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about what the car will bring. If you buy well now, you may have less downside risk than someone who purchased when prices were higher. For resale, condition, mileage, and trim equipment will matter a lot because the MINI Cooper’s appeal is tied closely to its personality and feature content.

Is the 2020 MINI Cooper safe?

The 2020 MINI Cooper received top marks from the IIHS, earning "Good" scores in all crash tests.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward-collision warning is standard, but automatic emergency braking is unavailable. Front and rear parking sensors are included with the Premier+ package, and the rear-view camera system is also noted. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used example you are considering.

Should I buy a 2020 MINI Cooper or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.81% compared with last year.
• The 2020 MINI Cooper stands out for blending its historic design with a more modern direction, while keeping the playful character that defines the nameplate.

The bottom line: If you want the MINI’s distinctive style and fun-to-drive personality, the 2020 model is a sensible place to shop because pricing has eased and inventory is available. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still focus on the lowest-priced listings, but you should be selective about trim and equipment because the feature set varies meaningfully.
