Used 2020 Hyundai Kona for Sale nearOttawa, ON

How much does the 2020 Hyundai Kona cost?

Prices have softened 14.11% compared to this time last year, making it a favourable time to shop this model year.

There are 322 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.68/5 user rating, and our experts give it 6.83/10. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its fun driving experience, responsive handling, and stylish design. The user feedback also points to good features and fuel efficiency, which helps the Kona feel appealing if you want a small crossover that is enjoyable to drive every day.

The trade-offs are clear, though: the interior materials can feel hard and the cargo area is small. In use, that means the Kona makes the most sense if you value style, driving enjoyment, and a higher seating position more than maximum space or a plush cabin.

With 32.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to find a worthwhile example.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.68/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe the Kona as dependable, trouble-free, and a vehicle they can count on over the long term. That lines up with the way many owners talk about its everyday usability and the confidence it inspires as a small crossover.

The powertrain and chassis also come across as robust and well sorted, which supports the impression of solid day-to-day dependability. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about whether the small cabin and limited cargo space will still suit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Hyundai Kona?

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model gives you a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, proximity entry, heated front seats, and heated side mirrors, while higher trims add a sunroof and adaptive cruise control. If you want the most useful equipment, the midpack Trend is the one that brings the features most drivers will want.
• Powertrain: The 1.6-litre turbocharged engine delivers 175 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the standard 2.0-litre engine makes 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard on the two entry-level grades, and all-wheel drive is optional on all 2.0-litre models but standard with the turbo.
• Safety package: The Kona includes lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, and forward emergency braking as standard equipment. Pedestrian detection is limited to the Ultimate, and some competitors offer more airbags.
• Infotainment: You get a 7-inch touchscreen on the base model, while the Ultimate adds an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the system is paired with Bluetooth.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.6T AWD is rated at 9.0 L/100 km city, 8.0 highway, and 8.6 combined. The 2.0 AWD returns 9.2 city, 7.8 highway, and 8.6 combined, while FWD can be as low as 7.9 L/100 km combined.

Which 2020 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2020 Hyundai Kona is offered in 4 trim levels: Essential, Preferred, Trend, and Luxury.

Here's the short version:

• Essential: This is the entry point if you want the Kona’s styling and standard equipment at the lowest price, but it is the most basic way to buy one.
• Preferred: This trim adds more everyday convenience and is the better starting point if you want a more complete small crossover without stretching too far.
• Trend: This is the best-value choice because it brings the turbo engine, standard AWD, and the features most drivers will want.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want the more upscale equipment set, including the sunroof and adaptive cruise control.

The safety package includes lane-keep assist and a driver attention monitor as standard equipment, while pedestrian detection is reserved for the Ultimate.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent opportunities.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 322 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.11% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $17,515 CAD, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $17,515 CAD sits slightly below last year's $20,392 CAD.

That price drop suggests the Kona has become more accessible for used buyers, but it also means sellers may need to be realistic about what the market will bear. If you own one, the current trend points to softer pricing than a year ago, so timing and condition matter more than ever.

Because the Kona is still drawing interest from shoppers who want style and driving enjoyment in a small crossover, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less distinctive rivals. Even so, the limited space and value concerns can cap how much buyers are willing to pay.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.68/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2020 Kona scored five out of five stars overall in crash tests approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with maximum ratings for driver and passenger in the frontal test and for driver and rear passenger in the side test. It scored four out of five stars in the rollover risk test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated the Kona a 2020 Top Safety Pick for scoring the top Good rating in six crash tests, the optional LED headlights, and the top Superior rating for forward emergency braking.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward emergency braking comes standard on every Kona, along with lane-keep assist and a driver attention monitor. Pedestrian detection is only for the Ultimate, and the IIHS gave that system a lower score for detecting a person than another vehicle. The Kona also does not come with front knee airbags or rear side airbags, which is worth keeping in mind if safety equipment is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2020 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.11% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.68/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more standard driver assists and keeps the Kona feeling current.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $19,306 CAD, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $17,515 CAD average.
• It broadens the trim lineup and leans harder into value-focused appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the better price and are happy with the 2020’s mix of style, standard safety tech, and lively driving manners, this is the smarter buy. If you can spend more and want a broader trim selection, the 2021 is the better path for price-insensitive shoppers.
